Abstract: A nebulizer (10) includes a housing (12) having an inlet (18), a compressor (28), a reservoir (58) and a nozzle assembly (56) disposed therein. The compressor includes a number of rotor members (30), each rotor member being rotatable about a respective axis (32) with each respective axis being parallel with every other respective axis and spaced an equal distance (r) from a central axis (34) of the compressor. The compressor further includes a compression chamber (36) and a motor(38). The compression chamber has a variable volume defined by the relative positioning of the number of rotor members. The compression chamber is in selective fluid communication with the inlet. The motor has an output shaft (40) operatively coupled to the number of rotor members in a manner such that rotation of the output shaft causes rotation of each rotor member of the number of rotor members. The motor is adapted to be coupled to a power source. The reservoir is adapted to receive a quantity of medication (60).

  • Publication number: 20070194882
Abstract: An authentication system that permits the user to use a function by authenticating the user in a more reliable manner than conventional technologies. The authentication system 1 includes a user terminal 10, an authentication recording medium 20, and wireless ID tags 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, . . . 36. Upon receiving from a user an instruction to activate a function provided by the authentication system for which the access by the user is limited, the user terminal 10 collects ID codes from the wireless ID tags 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, . . . 36, and judge whether or not a level of match between the collected ID codes and the ID codes stored beforehand in the authentication recording medium 20 satisfies a predetermined condition. If the level of match satisfies the predetermined condition, the user terminal 10 activates the designated function.

  • Publication number: 20070127434
Abstract: Stations like mobile terminals, bases stations and network nodes comprising rake receivers with fingers require relatively many calculations to be performed for despreading a symbol. By replacing despreading multipliers, integrators and dumpers in the fingers by Hadamard transformers (62), chips of several symbols with orthogonal channelization codes can be despreaded simultaneously, and the station and the rake receiver have become more efficient. The despreading section (60 of the finger (34) comprises the Hadamard transformer (62) and a serial-to-parallel converter (61) comprising downsamplers (71-73). The station is a high-speed downlink packet access station (HSDPA) in a universal mobile telecommunication system (UMTS), with a number of de-channelization codes used being at least ten percent of a despreading factor used.

Abstract: The invention concerns variable focus spectacles in which the electro-wetting effect is utilized to provide a manually or automatically variable focal length. The variable focus spectacles (200) comprise a spectacle frame (210) and at least one variable power lens (100A, 100B). The lens (100) comprises a transparent rear wall (110), a transparent front wall (120), a cavity (140) formed between the transparent front wall (120) and the transparent rear wall (110), first and second immiscible fluids of differing refractive index contained within said cavity, and electrodes (150, 160) for applying an electric field to said fluids to change a contact angle between an interface layer (M) of the two fluids and the front wall of the lens.

Abstract: A two-dimensional (2D) array transducer capable of transmitting ultrasonic energy in tissue at a fundamental frequency and of sufficient power to generate a harmonic of the fundamental frequency. In particular, the invention requires that at least 25% of the array elements are excited to transmit the ultrasonic energy, that the transducer array has a checkerboard pattern, that high voltage electronics are housed in a transducer handle, that transmit and receive beamforming electronics are housed in a transducer handle, that high voltage electronics connected to transmit elements in the transducer and low voltage electronics connected to receive elements in the transducer are housed in the transducer handle, and that elements forming the array are of a single crystal.

  • Publication number: 20040095138
Abstract: To prepare magnetization for steady state magnetic resonance imaging, magnetic resonance is primed using a parameterized priming sequence (60). The parameterized priming sequence (60) has a spectral offset parameter value (40) corresponding to a spectral offset of the steady state imaging. Subsequent to the priming, steady state magnetic resonance imaging data at the first spectral offset is acquired using a magnetic resonance imaging scanner (10). A reconstruction processor (44) reconstructs the imaging data to generate an image representation. Preferably, the parameterized priming sequence (60) includes a longitudinal priming sequence (62) that prepares longitudinal magnetization in a state approximating a steady state longitudinal magnetization. A spoiler sequence (64) spoils transverse magnetization while retaining longitudinal magnetization. A transverse priming sequence (66) prepares traverse magnetization in a state approximating a steady state transverse magnetization.

  • Patent number: 6593594
Abstract: A lateral metal-oxide-semiconductor field effect transistor (LMOSFET) includes a layer of silicon carbide semiconductor material having a p-type conductivity, source and drain regions having n-type conductivities disposed in the silicon carbide semiconductor layer, and an insulated gate electrode disposed on the silicon carbide semiconductor layer. A silicon carbide semiconductor substrate having an n-type conductivity, supports the silicon carbide semiconductor layer. A second layer of silicon carbide semiconductor material having a p-type conductivity, is disposed between the substrate and the first silicon carbide semiconductor layer to prevent parasitic transistor effects. A sinker region having an n-type conductivity extends from the source contact to the silicon carbide semiconductor substrate to ground the substrate.
