  • Publication number: 20080195043
Abstract: The present application relates to a puncture system for inserting a cannula or a needle into a blood vessel of a person or an animal. The puncture system (100) has location determination means (108) for determining at least one location of the blood vessel. The location determination means are mechanically flexible such that their shape is adaptable to the shape of a body part of the person or animal. Furthermore, the system comprises processing means (112) for determining a puncture location (124) of the blood vessel depending on the output of the location determination means.

  • Publication number: 20080192786
Abstract: There is described a tunable radiation emitting semiconductor device (50) comprising at least one elongated structure (120) at least partially fabricated from one or more semiconductor materials exhibiting a bandgap characteristic including one or more energy transitions whose energies correspond to photon energies of light radiation. The at least one structure (120) is thereby operable to emit light radiation therefrom in response to a current flow therethrough. Moreover, the at least one elongated structure (120) is fabricated to be sufficiently narrow for quantum confinement of charge carriers associated with the current flow to occur therein.

  • Publication number: 20080140171
Abstract: Handling or removal of a pair of defibrillator electrode pads from their package is detected in order to effectively time the issuance of prompts to guide the user. One plate of a capacitor is embedded in the package, the electrode pads and lead wires serving as the other plate. Impedance across the capacitor in an alternating current circuit is monitored to detect an increase in the distance between the pads and the package. The impedance level is determined, in a low-cost hardware solution, by rectifying and then integrating an output voltage of the capacitor to produce a voltage signal whose magnitude attenuates as the pads arc handled or removed. In one embodiment, the above methodology is time-division multiplexed with an alternative process that identifies handling or removal based on pad-to-pad impedance. In a further embodiment, the capacitive configuration is replaced with an inductive one.

  • Publication number: 20070052859
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for composing a scene containing a plurality of objects, an object comprising chrominance and luminance components, a chrominance value being associated with a set of at least two luminance values, wherein said method comprises a step of blending a first object with a second object resulting in a blended object, said step comprising the sub-steps of:—generating a luminance component of the blended object from the corresponding luminance components of the first and second objects and from a first composition function, and—generating a chrominance component of the blended object from the corresponding chrominance components of the first and second object and from a second composition function, the second composition function depending on a set of associated values of the first composition function.

  • Publication number: 20060059260
Abstract: A method, a media system of/for recommending media content on the media system (103) by use of a first set (300) of preference profiles stored on the media system and a second set (301) of preference profiles stored on a server (101), wherein each preference profile of said two sets of preference profiles comprises preferred media content saved with characteristics of a community on the server, and saved with characteristics of a user on the media system. The media system can be a TV, a computer, a personal video recorder, a set-top box or a radio. The media content can be TV, video, a radio broadcasting, Internet or Internet sites. The community characteristics can be a community name, a profession, an employer, a department of the employer, a group, a sub-group, a region of living, a sex, sexual preferences, etc. The preferred media content can be categories such as comedy, horror, sport, opera, news, etc.

  • Patent number: 6590571
Abstract: Method of calculating new luminance value data based on original luminance value data to be displayed on a matrix display device, where luminance value data are coded in sub-fields, and double-line addressing for the least significant sub-fields is used for reducing the addressing time. A reduction of the difference between the new data and the original data is obtained by computing a new common value for the least significant sub-fields of a set of neighboring or adjacent lines, and new values for the most significant sub-fields of each line of said set of adjacent lines. The method comprises embodiments which are applicable to both binary and non-binary sub-fields.
