Patent number: 7961890Abstract: A parametric representation of a multi-channel audio signal describes the spatial properties of the audio signal well with compact side information when a coherence information, describing the coherence between a first and a second channel, is derived within a hierarchical encoding process only for channel pairs including a first channel having only information of a left side with respect to a listening position and including a second channel having only information from a right side with respect to a listening position. As within the hierarchical process the multiple audio channels of the audio signal are downmixed iteratively into monophonic channels, one can pick the relevant parameters from an encoding step involving only channel pairs carrying the information needed to describe the spatial properties of the multi-channel audio signal.Type: GrantFiled: December 21, 2005Date of Patent: June 14, 2011Assignees: Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft zur Foerderung der Angewandten Forschung, e.V., Coding Technologies AB, Koninklijke Philips Electronics N.V.Inventors: Andreas Hölzer, Jürgen Herre, Heiko Purnhagen, Kristofer Kjörling, Jonas Röden, Lars Villemoes, Jonas Engdegard, Jeroen Breebaart, Erik Schuijers, Werner Oomen

Patent number: 7961571Abstract: A recording method, particularly suitable for use in a digital video-camera, is described according to which a digital signal (10), deriving from the encoding of an audio-video signal is temporarily stored in a buffer (11) and from there recorded in a dual layer DVD (12) in successive recording intervals (22) or packets. The start/stop of a recording interval is normally controlled according to the level (15) of filling of the buffer. The digital signal is partitioned in portions that need to be entirely recorded on one single layer, and this triggers the need for a layer jump independently from the level of filling of the buffer. In order to avoid starting a layer jump with the buffer already partly filled, and therefore having a short non-recording interval (23) when time is mostly needed for calibrations, it is proposed to adjust the resolution in the encoding of the audio-video signal so as to have the buffer close to empty when the layer jump occurs.Type: GrantFiled: July 7, 2006Date of Patent: June 14, 2011Assignee: Koninklijke Philips Electronics N.V.Inventor: Pawel Andrzej Konieczny
