  • Patent number: 7927280
Abstract: An ultrasound imaging system includes an imaging probe having an array of transducer elements that is flat and relatively elongated in the azimuth direction and is curved outwardly in the elevation direction. As a result, when the transducer elements are scanned in a step-wise manner, the acoustic pattern of the probe diverges in the elevation direction. The probe therefore provides a large field of view in the near field despite using relatively few transducer elements. The probe also includes sub-array beamformers to delay signals transmitted and received from the transducer elements in respective sub-arrays. The received signals are coupled to an imaging system which includes a signal path that processes the received signals into signals corresponding to a volumetric image. A display coupled to the signal path can then show a volumetric image of anatomical features in a volumetric region adjacent the array of transducer elements.

  • Patent number: 7928944
Abstract: A display arrangement comprises a plurality of pixel elements (FLCD) that have controllable light-transfer characteristics. A display driver controls the plurality of pixel elements in accordance with a color component (R) during a control interval (TO) that is assigned to the color component. The display driver causes a color-light source (RL1, RL2) to apply a color light, which corresponds to the color component, to the plurality of pixel elements during a main interval (RMO). The main interval is comprised in the control interval that is assigned to color component. The light-source controller also causes the color-light source to apply the color light during a spillover interval (RS1, RS2). The spillover interval is comprised in another control interval (T1) that is assigned to another color component (G).

  • Patent number: 7929394
Abstract: An information storage system is described which comprises a reading device (6) and an optical record carrier (5) having at least two information planes (1, 2, 3). The radiation from the record carrier is converted in a detection system (15) into a detection signal (16) which is applied to a detection circuit (17). In order that this circuit can derive the read information from the detection signal in a reliable manner, the interference signals generated by the information planes which are not to be read should comply with a requirement, referred to as the interference requirement, which is characteristic of the detection circuit. Values for the parameters of the record carrier, such as the thickness of the layers between the information planes and the reflection and transmission coefficients of the information planes then follow from this interference requirement.

  • Publication number: 20110087079
Abstract: When monitoring a patient, acoustic events (e.g., coughs, snores, impact sounds, verbalizations, etc.) relevant to the patient's status are detected by a microphone array (12) and timestamped. Detected event signals generated by the microphone array (12) are filtered to identify signatures such as zero crossings, corner frequencies, amplitude, pitch, etc., for classification purposes. The filtered signals are digitized and classified into one of a plurality of acoustic event classes (e.g., snore, cough, wheeze, breath, etc.) and/or subclasses. The classified events are displayed to a user (e.g., graphically, textually, etc.) with their timestamps to indicate chronology. A user can review the acoustic events, select one or more events, and listen to a recording of the selected event (s). Additionally, specified acoustic events can trigger an alarm to alert a nurse or the like that the patient requires immediate attention.

Abstract: A method for the manufacture of a wavelength converted light emitting device is provided. A light curable coating material is arranged on the outer surface of a wavelength converted light emitting diode. The light curable coating material is cured, in positions where a high intensity of unconverted LED-light encounters the curable coating material. The method can be used to selectively stop unconverted light from exiting the device, leading to a wavelength converted LED essentially only emitting converted light.

  • Publication number: 20110084301
Abstract: LED epitaxial layers (n-type, p-type, and active layers) are grown on a substrate. For each die, the n and p layers are electrically bonded to a package substrate that extends beyond the boundaries of the LED die such that the LED layers are between the package substrate and the growth substrate. The package substrate provides electrical contacts and conductors leading to solderable package connections. The growth substrate is then removed. Because the delicate LED layers were bonded to the package substrate while attached to the growth substrate, no intermediate support substrate for the LED layers is needed. The relatively thick LED epitaxial layer that was adjacent the removed growth substrate is then thinned and its top surface processed to incorporate light extraction features.
