  • Patent number: 7561688
Abstract: Disclosed is a method of adjusting a supplementary data signal (wm(n)) to be embedded in an information signal (x(n)), for example an audio signal. The method comprises the steps of determining (107) a relative magnitude (g(n)) of a first property function (Mx(n)) of the information signal averaged over a region of a predetermined size and a second property function (Mwm(n)) of the supplementary data signal averaged over said region; and adjusting (407) the supplementary data signal according to the determined relative magnitude.

  • Patent number: 7518663
Abstract: A display device with directional backlight produces stereoscopic images by emitting light in two angular cones. Light is alternatively sent to the left and to the right eye of the observer synchronously with switching between images for the left and the right eye on a fast switching LCD. Alternatively, images may be produced for two or more observers and directed towards different directions. The display device includes a display panel, a light redirection element for directing light through the display panel, and a light guide for directing light towards the light redirection element. Two light sources are coupled to the light guide so as to couple light into the light guide in two directions. The light redirection element has a first groove structure and the light guide has a second groove structure so that light from the light sources are directed through the display panel with two angular distributions.

  • Publication number: 20080309329
Abstract: A magnetic sensor device is disclosed for the detection or determination of a magnetic field, such as for example, but not limited to, the presence of magnetic particles (15). In particular it relates to an integrated or on-chip magnetic sensor element (11) for the detection of magnetic nano-particles functioning as a label to biological molecules. The device of the present invention offers reduced cross-talk between the magnetic sensor element (11) and a magnetic field generator (12) by compensating capacitive and/or magnetic coupling for instance by using an electrostatic shield and/or modulation and demodulation techniques. The device may be used for magnetic detection of binding of biological molecules on a micro-array or biochip.

  • Publication number: 20080256032
Abstract: A playlist generator partitions the playlist generation process into a multi-stage, hierarchical process. At an example highest hierarchical level, the user's “general” preferences are applied. These general preferences reflect the user's “tastes”, and are relatively constant. At a lower level of the hierarchy, the user's “specific” preferences are applied. These specific preferences reflect the dynamic time-dependent or event dependent aspects of a user's entertainment preferences. The high-level preferences generate a subset of material from the global collection of material, and the lower-level preferences are applied to this subset of material as the user's immediate preferences change. By segregating the playlist generation process hierarchically, efficiency is gained by applying immediate preference changes to a smaller subset of material, and coherency is improved by limiting the subsequent selection processes to a given subset of the material.

  • Publication number: 20070260564
Abstract: The invention relates to a method, a computer program product and a computer system for structuring an unstructured text by making use of statistical models trained on annotated training data. Each section of text in which the text is segmented is further assigned to a topic which is associated to a set of labels. The statistical models for the segmentation of the text and for the assignment of a topic and its associated labels to a section of text explicitly accounts for: correlations between a section of text and a topic, a topic transition between sections, a topic position within the document and a (topic-dependent) section length. Hence structural information of the training data is exploited in order to perform segmentation and annotation of unknown text.

  • Patent number: 7272094
Abstract: Methods and devices are described for writing an optical record carrier, in which a mark representing recorded data is written in a phase-change layer of a record carrier by a sequence of radiation pulses. A rear heating pulse 24 is introduced after a last write pulse 23, 26 and a front heating pulse 25 is introduced before the first write pulse 22,26. The power level 13 of the front heating pulse and the power level 15 of the rear heating pulse may be dependent on the length of the mark to be recorded and on properties of the record carrier. The method results in a reduced jitter of the marks written, especially when writing at high recording speeds.

  • Publication number: 20070202911
Abstract: An incoming signal, such as a data frame, is detected in a RF stage (302) of a wireless station (300). This allows the baseband stage (304) to be in a low power or off state until an incoming signal is detected. By detecting an incoming signal in the RF stage (302), the amount of power consumed by the baseband stage (304) is advantageously reduced. When an incoming signal is detected, the RF stage (302) generates an activation signal that is sent to the baseband stage (304) to activate the baseband stage (304). Once activated, the baseband stage (304) receives the signal and performs signal processing and data recovery operations.

  • Patent number: 7218254
Abstract: A coder is fed with precoded data such that the absolute value of the running digital sum (RDS) of the code words as produced by the coder is limited. This is achieved by ensuring that in a group of 2 code words, the RDS of the first code word is compensated by the RDS of the second code word. The RDS at the end of the second code word is then zero and the excursions of the RDS from the start of the first code word until the end of the second code word are limited because there are only a limited number of bits that can contribute to an increase of the absolute value of the RDS.

  • Publication number: 20070061635
Abstract: A recording device has medium interface means (14) for interfacing with a storage medium (11) for recording data on the medium and retrieving data from the medium, and a host interface (15) for communicating with a host (13) via messages according to a protocol (ATA/ATAPI). The messages include a write command for writing data, and a read command for reading data. In existing protocols (MMC-3) unwritten areas are considered to be areas that are not yet formatted, and zero data is to be returned on a read command. The device has an error reporting unit (16) for reporting an error via an error message in the event that during reading an area is detected which is unwritten.

  • Publication number: 20060107566
Abstract: The display device of the invention comprises a flexible display element that can be extended in rollable fashion between a first position and a second position. In the first position the element is present in a housing and in the second position it is at least partially visible. The display element is supported in its second position by foldable arms. According to the invention a foldable arm comprises means which facilitate the extension of the display from the first to the second position and from the second position to a further position. These means also counteract any tendency of the display to return by itself from the second or any further position to the first position.

  • Publication number: 20060014088
Abstract: The invention relates to an optically anisotropic body, such as a compensation foil or a micro-lens array, having a desired pattern of optical properties. Said body is obtainable by a method wherein a non-uniform electric and/or magnetic field is applied over a body comprising a polymerizable electro-optical and/or magneto-optical material, such as a LC monomer, thus inducing a desired molecular pattern. • Publication number: 20050288577
Abstract: The invention relates to the assistance of the navigation of a catheter (1) in a vessel (2). A sequence of cross-sectional images of the portion of the vessel that is of interest is first obtained with the help of an intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) probe (3) and stored as a roadmap of the vessel. A cross-sectional image (10) that is obtained at the current position of the IVUS probe (3) can then be sorted to the position on the roadmap that is the best fit. A model (3?) of the probe, and a model (11?) of the instrument (a stent (11), for example) coupled to the probe, can be shown on a display (6) at the corresponding position on the roadmap.

  • Patent number: 6429062
Abstract: In the fabrication of a 0.10 micron CMOS integrated circuit, a high-energy plasma etch is used to pattern a polysilicon layer and an underlying gate oxide layer to define gate structures. A thermal oxide step anneals silicon exposed and damaged by this etch. Instead of using this thermal oxide as a blocking layer for a source/drain extension implant, it is removed so as to expose the silicon surfaces of the source/drain regions. A TEOS deposition results in a carbon-bearing silicon dioxide layer in contact with the surfaces of the crystalline source/drain regions. A boron PMOS source/drain extension implant is performed through this carbon-bearing blocking layer. Subsequent steps result in the formation of sidewall spacers, heavily doped source/drain sections, submetal dielectric, an intermetal dielectric interconnect structure, and passivation. The relatively high interstitial recombination rate of the carbon-bearing blocking layer attracts a flow of interstitial silicon.
