  • Patent number: 5792720
Abstract: A method and an apparatus using a fluidized bed type adsorbing tower for manufacturing a TEDA-impregnated active carbon which is used for removing toxic materials from a fluid. A base active carbon is dried to remove the water component, and the dried active carbon is filled into the fluidizing type adsorbing tower and to above a sieve plate. A TEDA reagent is injected into a TEDA vapor generating vessel. A heated air is supplied into the TEDA vapor generating vessel so as to generate a TEDA vapor mixed with the heated air. The heated air mixed with the TEDA vapor is supplied into the lower portion of the fluidized bed type adsorbing tower so as to make the base active carbon fluidized. Thus the TEDA vapor is impregnated into the active carbon within the fluidized carbon bed.

  • Patent number: 5719093
Abstract: A method and an apparatus are disclosed for desorbing TEDA by utilizing a fluidized bed so as to reuse a used impregnated active carbon for the purpose of removing toxic materials from a fluid. The impregnated active carbon is injected into a fluidized bed at a high temperature to carry out a desorbing process, in such a manner that TEDA and CH.sub.3 l are desorbed from the impregnated active carbon at a high temperature by utilizing the high volatility of TEDA and CH.sub.3 l. If a heated air is injected through an air inlet into the desorbing tower, the high temperature air and the used impregnated active carbon are met in a fluidized state, with the result that the active carbon with TEDA and CH.sub.3 l desorbed is discharged.

  • Patent number: 5661745
Abstract: A method for generating high peak power pulses in lamp pumped continuous lasers by current mixing is disclosed, in which three kinds of oscillations, i.e., pure continuous wave laser oscillation, pure pulse laser oscillation and mixed laser oscillation of continuous wave and pulse lasers are attained without replacing any internal components of the laser. The current mixing is implemented by combining a high peak pulse current from pulse mode power supply and a DC current from the continuous wave laser power supply directly with isolating diodes, whereby a high peak power pulse equivalent to several scores of times the output of a continuous wave laser is simultaneously obtained.

  • Patent number: 5641388
Abstract: An electrolyzing apparatus using a circulating capillary tube type mercury bundled electrode is disclosed, in which the advantage of mercury that it has a high overpotential for hydrogen evolution reaction compared with the general solid metals is preserved, and the disadvantage of mercury that it cannot be so shaped as to have a large contact area is overcome. That is, the mercury contact area is maximized. The oxidation and reduction reactions which occur in the vertically circulating capillary tube type mercury bundle electrode electrolyzing apparatus can be defined by a simple formula so as to quantize their analysis. Based on this formula, the stability checking, and the adjustment of the oxidation state of metal ions in the solution can be carried out in a rapid and continuous manner. Further, the concentration of the metal ions and the oxidation state of the metal ions within the solution can be analyzed in the same manner.

  • Patent number: 5633901
Abstract: A nuclear containment arrangement has a permanent pool cavity seal extending across an annular gap between a reactor pressure vessel and a refueling pool wall to provide a water tight seal therebetween. A seal plate has a support ring with a cylindrical section weldedly connected to an outer seal ring on an embedded ring. A J-shaped flexible ring attached to the seal plate allows axial and radial movement of the reactor vessel during thermal expansion and contraction. The inner portion of the seal plate overhangs the J-shaped flexible ring thereby to protect it from damage resulting from an object dropped thereon. Cooperating access holes and access hole covers in the seal plate provide access to the refueling pool cavity. Support arms underneath the seal plate are provided. Each support arm may have leveling screws to adjust the level of the seal plate.

  • Patent number: 5633884
Abstract: Self-seeding method and apparatus for a dual cavity type tunable laser utilizing a diffraction grating are disclosed, in which first diffracted beams and 0th diffracted beams are utilized. The self-seeding method and apparatus for a dual cavity type tunable laser are constituted such that two oscillators are internally provided by utilizing a diffraction grating and by making a single medium shared, so that the respective oscillators would serve as a master oscillator and a slave oscillator, thereby making it possible to save optical devices. Further, in the present invention, only one partially reflecting mirror is disposed on the output portion of a GIM (grazing incidence with tuning mirror) type oscillator, so that a self-seeding would occur, and that the laser output would be greatly amplified with the oscillation linewidth maintained without variations.

  • Patent number: 5433864
Abstract: The invention discloses a method for treating a heavy metal containing waste water by using acorns. Acorns and nuts of other trees belonging to the Eagaceae group are dried at the room temperature and under the sun beams. Then acornic acid is extracted from the dried acorns. Then the acornic acid is filtered until it becomes colorless. A heavy metal containing waste water (low concentration and high concentration) is maintained at pH=8-11.5 by adding NH.sub.4 OH, Ca(OH).sub.2 and NAOH. Then the acornic acid is added into the waste water, and then, Ca.sup.++ ions singly or together with other divalent cations are added by 50 ppm. Then this solution is agitated for several minutes, and then, the heavy metals are precipitated, or the solution is filtered, thereby treating the heavy metal containing waste water.
