    Abstract: Cosmetics in which vitamin A or its derivatives are stably formulated, which are excellent in usability due to moderate viscosity and also excellent in feelings upon use such as rich and nourish feeling and aqueous feeling at the time of use and skin effect after use (skin elasticity after use) and have excellent stability with the passage of time. The cosmetic composition contains vitamin A or a derivative thereof, an alkali-soluble polymer emulsion thickener and an oil-soluble antioxidant as essential components. Also, the cosmetic composition wherein the alkali-soluble polymer emulsion thickener is a copolymer of (A) at least one of acrylic acid and methacrylic acid, (B) one or two or more species selected from acrylic acid alkyl esters and methacrylic acid alkyl esters, and (C) an ester of a polyoxyalkylene monoalkyl ether with acrylic acid or an ester of a polyoxyalkylene monoalkyl ether with methacrylic acid.

    Abstract: The present invention is to provide a metal oxide organopolysiloxane hybrid powder, wherein a silicon atom of organopolysiloxane is bonded by covalent bond with a metal atom through an oxygen atom and complicated homogeneously. Titanium and/or zirconium is desirably used as the above mentioned metal atom. Especially, a porous titanium oxide organopolysiloxane hybrid powder whose specific surface area is larger than 50 m2/g is desirably used. Said hybrid powder can be produced by generating sol by hydrolysis of metal alkoxide, adding reactive organopolysiloxane to said sol to generate hybrid sol solution, then precipitating it. The method to produce titanium oxide.silica composite by the heat treatment of porous titanium oxide.organopolysiloxane hybrid powder can be also mentioned. By making hybrid, the optical properties of metal oxide powder can be controlled and dispersing ability, dispersing stability, water repellency and hard feeling can be improved.

    Abstract: Proposed is a powder of silica-cerium oxide composite particles useful as an ultraviolet shielding agent in a resin composition or as a sunscreening agent in a cosmetic composition. The cerium oxide-based composite particles consist of cerium oxide and 5 to 60% by weight of amorphous silica calculated as SiO.sub.2. The composite particles are prepared by the addition of sodium silicate and an inorganic acid to an aqueous slurry containing precipitates of cerium hydroxide so as to precipitate amorphous silica on the particles of cerium hydroxide followed by drying and calcination of the particles separated from the reaction mixture. Various formulations of cosmetic compositions compounded with the silica-cerium oxide composite particles are disclosed.

The silicone polymer can swell in silicone oils and function as a viscosity increasing agent for silicone oils.

    Abstract: A cover is pivotably attached to a case body. Male thread portions of a multiple thread and unthreaded portions are alternately formed on a peripheral wall of a cosmetic container section of the case body. A ring is rotatably attached to the cover and externally fitted to the peripheral wall. The ring has female thread portions of a multiple thread intermittently formed. The female and male thread portions are engageable and disengageable. An inner cover made of an elastic material is attached to the lower portion of the cover so that the inner cover is brought into press contact with an open edge of the peripheral wall. A space is formed between the cover and the inner cover so that the inner cover is elastically deformed and expanded. When the female and the male thread portions are engaged with each other and the ring is rotated to a closed position, the cover approaches the case body so that the inner cover is brought into press contact with the open edge of the peripheral wall.
