  • Patent number: 6416962
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for identifying a Mycobacterium species responsible for a mycobacterial infection in human or animal, comprising selecting a suitable mycobacterial species and strain; preparing at least one mycobacterial antigen, respectively antigen preparation; binding the antigen, respectively the antigen preparation to a suitable carrier; causing the binding antigen to react with antibodies from serum of an individual infected with a Mycobacterium species; making visible antigen-antibody reactions for a suitable antibody (sub-)class; and identifying the responsible Mycobacterium species on the basis of the reactions which are made visible. The invention further provides a diagnostic kit which takes the form of a dip-stick on which is arranged a carrier strip with mycobacterial antigens binding thereto, and means for visualizing antigen-antibody reactions occurring on the carrier after contact with the serum for testing.

  • Patent number: 6406850
Abstract: The Invention relates to a method for providing at least one selected sequence in a nucleic acid with interstrand cross-links. The method comprises hybridizing at least one selected single strand sequence with a complementary single strand nucleic acid or a functional analogue thereof. The selected sequence or complementary nucleic acid or both comprise a cross-linking agent. The invention also relates to a method, referred to as COBRA, for the labeling of a set of at least two bio-organic molecules with a set of at least two colors, comprising generating said set of colors through combining ratio labeling with binary labeling.

  • Patent number: 6338943
Abstract: The present invention provides improved methods for labeling nucleotides. The method of the invention for labeling nucleotides comprises the steps of: reacting a reactive moiety of a linker, which linker is a platinum compound having a stabilizing bridge and two reactive moieties, with an electron donating moiety of a spacer, which spacer comprises a chain having at least four atoms and at least one heteroatom in the chain, which spacer further comprises said electron donating moiety at one end of the chain and a reactive moiety at the other end of the chain; reacting the reactive moiety of said spacer with a label; reacting the other reactive moiety of said linker with a nucleotide. A major advantage of the invention is that all nucleotides can be labeled by the method of the invention, whereas until now the attachment of a label was mostly restricted to one or certain nucleotides.

  • Patent number: 5302347
Abstract: An apparatus for cyclical temperature processes with automatic monitoring and adjusting of the temperature of a water bath, including a reactor space with a water bath in which a plurality of sample containers with samples to be examined can be placed. The desired temperatures and periods during which each adjusted temperature should be maintained are adjustable by an adjustment means, wherein a temperature sensor for measuring the temperature of the water bath is provided and a control unit controls the temperature of the water bath in dependence on the measured temperature and time. At least one magnetron tube is provided in the reactor space for heating the water bath and the sample containers placed in the same. The water bath is connectable to a water conduit through a water supply conduit wherein the control unit controls the magnetron tube and the valve in dependence on the desired temperature and time.
