  • Patent number: 5653138
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for forming circumferentially extending necked and flanged parts at an end of a bilaterally open hollow cylindrical body. First and second axially aligned shafts carry axially displaceable first and second inner tools, respectively. Each inner tool has a circumferential body-shaping and a circumferential body-supporting surface. In a first axial position of the two inner tools the shaping surfaces together define a circumferential shaping groove situated inside the hollow body, and the body-supporting surfaces support the hollow body. In a second axial position the two inner tools are at a greater axial distance from one another than in the first position to allow introduction of a hollow body therebetween. A third shaft, carrying an outer tool having a circumferential shaping surface, extends parallel to the first and second shafts.

  • Patent number: 5477720
Abstract: An roller-flanging device for flanging at least an end region of a cylindrical body includes a receptacle having a longitudinal axis common with the cylindrical body being flanged. Flange rollers are rotatably seated in the receptacle about the common longitudinal axis, and roll along a surface of the cylindrical body. The flange rollers each have a part with a cylindrical surface and a flange collar for forming a flange contour on the cylindrical body. At least one limiting body is disposed between contiguous ones of the flange rollers, and extends inwardly toward the common longitudinal axis beyond the circumscribed cylindrical surface of the cylindrical parts of the flange rollers at least when forming the flange. The at least one limiting body prevents burrs or material from the cylindrical body from reaching or extending beyond the cylindrical surface of the flange rollers, and assures a uniform flange diameter.

  • Patent number: 5472076
Abstract: Two cooperating spiral conveyors are provided between a transport device having a transport plane and a transport segment. The conveyors are driven in opposite directions and are provided with opposite thread directions. The axes of the spiral conveyors are disposed at the height of the transport plane. The pitch and the thread clearance of peripheral recesses of the spiral conveyors decrease continuously from the transport device to the transport segment. A support surface for a lid is disposed between the two spiral conveyors. At the end contiguous to the transport device, the support surface has the same height as the transport plane, and at the end contiguous to the transport segment, its height is lower by half of the lid diameter.

  • Patent number: 5439095
Abstract: An apparatus for serially conveying receptacle lids includes two lid-advancing wheels each having a plurality of circumferentially spaced peripheral pockets for receiving individual lids. The wheels peripherally adjoin one another in a border zone for transferring the lids from one wheel to the other. The apparatus further has a supporting surface situated underneath the wheels for supporting the lids as the lids are advanced by the wheels. An annular guide surrounds the wheels externally of the border zone for retaining the lids in the wheel pockets. A pin is mounted on at least one of the wheels at one of the pockets thereof; the pin is held displaceably relative to the wheel carrying the pin. Further, the pin has an upper position for engaging a radially inner part of a shoulder of the lid to retain the lid in the pocket adjoining pin. Further, the pin has a lower position for releasing the lid shoulder to allow a displacement of the lid relative to the pocket.

  • Patent number: 5174387
Abstract: A control system for a hydraulic percussion mechanism (6) is based on the continuous measurement of the striking rate (z) of the striking piston, or on the continuous measurement of the striking rate (z) of the striking piston together with the quantity per unit time (Q.sub.e) of the hydraulic driving medium coming into the percussion mechanism (6). One, or possibly both, of these parameters is measured from outside the percussion mechanism itself. The control system is configured in such a way that the internal resistance of the percussion mechanism or the hydraulic pump which powers it is increased if there is an increase in the striking rate (z) or the ratio z/Q of the striking rate to the incoming stream rate beyond respective limit values.

  • Patent number: 5129466
Abstract: A hydraulically operated striking mechanism includes a contact pressure control member held at least temporarily in contact with an insertion end of a drilling tool by a mechanism which applies a restoring force in the striking direction. A control conduit is connected by way of the contact pressure control member either to a pressure conduit or to a pressure return conduit. The control conduit actuates a switching element so that a control unit which alternatingly switches the movement of the striking piston performs a reversal movement into an operating stroke position at an earlier or later point in time during the return stroke of the striking piston and thus actuates the operating stroke of the striking piston in the striking direction.

  • Patent number: 5044918
Abstract: An apparatus for use in a compression molding machine to secure the position of a mass of hardenable plastic compound from which a compression molded object can be produced by upper and lower mold halves which are driven so as to be movable relative to one another. In order to prevent undesirable displacement of the plastic compound mass during closing of the mold, the apparatus includes holding pins at the lower mold half. The holding pins project beyond the mold surface of the lower mold half during charging and also during part of the compression molding process. The height of the holding pins relative to the mold surface is dimensioned to be less than the thickness of the plastic compound mass in the region of the pins.

  • Patent number: 5014546
Abstract: In order to ensure that the pressing force exerted during the production of molded objects acts exclusively on the molding compound (34), and is not absorbed by the lands (1a, 2a) the mold halves (1, 2), a distance determining apparatus employs a nozzle (3) bored into one of the lands. The mouth of the nozzle faces the land of the other mold half. The nozzle is connected by way of a hose (5) with a pressure source (9) for a compressible flow medium, such as compressed air. The hose serves as a reservoir for the flow medium. After attaining a starting state in which a predetermined overpressure is applied to the reservoir, the pressure source is switched off by a valve (7), and the time needed for the pressure in the reservoir to drop to a predetermined lower value is measured. This time period constitutes a measure of the distance (x) between the two lands (1a, 2a) of the mold halves.

  • Patent number: 4995778
Abstract: The present invention relates to a gripping apparatus for carrying along a adhesive panel of material and includes a carriage which is movably guided in the longitudinal direction of the panel and a holding tong disposed on the carriage with its long arms being configured to be adhesion reducing on their interior sides. To improve the economy and operational reliability of the gripping apparatus, it is proposed to equip the interior sides of the tong arms with a continuous adhesion reducing sheet which is pre-tensioned by means of a tensioning frame and to make the adhesion reducing sheet movable with a carriage. Displacement of the holding tongs, which is caused by the movement of the carriage results in a movement of the adhesion reducing sheet in the direction toward the front sections of the tong arms at the same velocity in opposite directions.
