Publication number: 20090038431Abstract: A compact vehicle pedal includes a mounting bracket having a lower arm with guide slot. A swing plate having a mounting face and upper arm with guide slot is pivotally interconnected to a mounting bracket upper arm at a first axis by a pivot pin disposed within the swing plate guide slot, and the swing plate upper end has a first degree of freedom. An electronically controlled pedal arm assembly is mounted on the swing plate. A screw member connected to a drive apparatus has an end connected to the swing plate and operatively connected to the mounting bracket slot at the second axis, and the swing plate lower end has a second degree of freedom that is greater than the first. Activation of the drive apparatus displaces the screw member to pivotally constrain movement of the swing plate about the first axis and the second axis.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 9, 2007Publication date: February 12, 2009Applicant: KSR International Co.Inventors: Larry Willemsen, Dan O'Neill

Patent number: 7292026Abstract: An apparatus and a method for providing an output signal correlated with a part position for a moveable part over a positional range, the apparatus includes a transmitter coil, the transmitter coil producing an electromagnetic field when excited by an exciter signal; a receiver coil located proximate to the transmitter coil, the receiver coil generating a receiver signal when the transmitter coil is excited due to inductive coupling between the transmitter coil and the receiver coil, the receiver signal being sensitive to the part position; a reference coil, providing a reference signal substantially independent of the part position; a signal conditioner receiving the receiver signal and the reference signal, the signal conditioner including an analog divider generating a ratio signal from the receiver signal and the reference signal, the output signal being obtained from the ratio signal.Type: GrantFiled: April 7, 2006Date of Patent: November 6, 2007Assignee: KSR International Co.Inventor: Joong K. Publication number: 20070234842Abstract: An electronically controlled pedal with hysteresis and kickdown includes a housing having a friction wall with a first frictional surface having a first radius of curvature, a second frictional surface having a second radius of curvature, and a step transitioning between the two. A hysteresis and kickdown generating means is pivotally attached to the upper pedal arm. A spring biases the generating means against the housing. Application of a first pedal load to the pedal arm generates a first hysteresis force between the hysteresis and kickdown generating means and the first frictional surface. Application of a second pedal load to the pedal arm generates a frictional kickdown force between the generating means and the step, and application of a third pedal load generates a second hysteresis force between the generating means and the second frictional surface. The first hysteresis force, kickdown force and second hysteresis force are transmitted back to the operator.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 6, 2007Publication date: October 11, 2007Applicant: KSR International Co.Inventor: RYAN W. ELLIOTT

Patent number: 7276897Abstract: An inductive position sensor for position sensing includes a transmitter coil and a receiver coil, the receiver coil generating a receiver signal when the transmitter coil is excited by an alternating current source. A moveable coupler element modifies the inductive coupling between the transmitter coil and the receiver coil so that the receiver signal is sensitive to the coupler element position. For example, the coupler element may rotate about a common central axis of the transmitter coil and receiving coil. In further examples, a reference coil is configured so that a provided reference signal is substantially insensitive to variations in the angular position of the coupler element. A ratio between the receiver signal and the reference signal is sensitive to the coupler element position, but substantially insensitive to common mode factors that influence the reference signal and receiver signal to a substantially equal degree.Type: GrantFiled: April 8, 2005Date of Patent: October 2, 2007Assignee: KSR International Co.Inventor: Joong K. Publication number: 20070137399Abstract: An electronically controlled pedal assembly with hysteresis includes a mounting bracket and pedal arm and a pedal support arm extending therebetween. The pedal arm is pivotally mounted to the pedal support arm at a pedal arm pivot point. The pedal support arm is pivotally mounted to the mounting bracket at a pedal support arm pivot point. A hysteresis generating means is operatively supported by the support arm at the pedal support arm pivot point, and includes a torsion spring and a friction spacer having a cylindrical portion and an outer helical flange. The friction spacer is disposed within the torsion spring such that the outer flange of the friction spacer fits between the coils of the coil spring. Rotation of the support arm creates a frictional hysteresis force between the torsion spring and the friction spacer that is translated back through the pedal arm.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 30, 2006Publication date: June 21, 2007Applicant: KSR International Co.Inventors: Larry Willemsen, Dan O'Neill, Peter Mishchenko, Rob Sotenos, Gregory Kolwich

Patent number: 7221154Abstract: An inductive position sensor for rotary motion includes a transmitter coil and a receiver coil, the receiver coil generating a receiver signal when the transmitter coil is excited by an alternating current source. A moveable coupler element modifies the inductive coupling between the transmitter coil and the receiver coil so that the receiver signal is sensitive to the coupler element position. The ratio between the receiver signal and the reference signal is sensitive to the coupler element position, but substantially insensitive to common mode factors. The angular or positional range of the position sensor can be increased using a plurality of receiver coils.Type: GrantFiled: April 6, 2006Date of Patent: May 22, 2007Assignee: KSR International Co.Inventor: Joong K. Publication number: 20050247158Abstract: An electronically controlled pedal assembly with hysteresis includes a housing having a front wall and an arcuate friction wall having a radius of curvature centered on a pedal arm pivot point and extending from an edge of the front wall. The pedal assembly also includes a pedal arm rotatably supported at the pedal arm pivot point by a mounting means operatively connected to the housing, and a hysteresis generating means pivotally mounted to the pedal arm. The pedal assembly further includes a spring positioned between the housing and the hysteresis generating means, such that the spring biases the hysteresis generating means against the housing, so that depression of the pedal arm compresses the spring while generating an increasing frictional hysteresis force between the arcuate friction wall and the hysteresis generating means that is translated back through the pedal arm, and release of the pedal arm reduces the frictional hysteresis force.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 17, 2003Publication date: November 10, 2005Applicant: KSR International Co.Inventors: Larry Willemsen, Dan O'Neill, Peter Mishchenko, Rob Soteros, Greg Kocwich
