Abstract: In accordance with the instant invention, biaxially-oriented polymer sheet is produced by continuously forging polymer feedstock between pairs of converging opposed surfaces. After it is biaxially-oriented, the sheet product is either cooled or heated while being restrained and advanced. The sheet produced by the process and apparatus has substantially uniform strain distribution over the width and length thereof as well as through the thickness thereof.
Abstract: A rain gutter which is formed of a one-piece sheet of material and includes terminal flanges. A clip member secured to the building side wall includes a channel into which the gutter terminal flanges are restrictively fitted to suspend the gutter below the building roof. The gutter top wall includes openings to allow moisture to be drained, while preventing entry of debris which could clog the gutter and downspout.
Abstract: A unique drive mechanism for a toy vehicle is disclosed which can be selectively enabled to cause the toy to come to an abrupt halt after a powered run, and which can cause the toy to realistically imitate a "spin out" of a full scale vehicle. The drive train includes a first gear directly rotated by a coiled spring, a second gear coupled in driving engagement with the vehicle's wheels, and a third gear shiftable between an engaged position coupling the first and second gears, and a cleared position wherein the second gear can rotate independently of the first gear. The third gear can be locked in its engaged position by a pivotal, gravity biased locking mechanism. The selective, locked engagement of the first, second and third gears causes the vehicle to come to an abrupt halt after the coil spring has fully unwound at the completion of a powered run.
Abstract: A stepping device supported on two legs capable of walking or stepping up and down steps. The device has a pair of legs rotatably mounted to and suspended vertically from spaced points on a link. A pendulum is rotatably mounted to the link and suspended vertically from a central axis on the link between the leg mounting points. Means is provided for swinging the pendulum from the vertical thereby increasing the lever arm from the center of gravity of the pendulum to the mounting point of the leg closest to the pendulum. As the pendulum approaches the horizontal, the moment about the mounting point in a direction opposite the direction of pendulum movement exceeds the counter moment about the mounting point. This causes the link to lift the trailing leg up and over the leading leg, thereby maintaining the balance of the device on the supporting leg and causing a stepping movement.
