Patents Assigned to Kvaerner Metals
  • Patent number: 6372009
Abstract: A process and apparatus for continuously reducing carbon monoxide (CO), uncombined free hydrogen (H2) and volatile hydrocarbons (VOC's) in molten metal refining vessel off-gases without forming undesirable oxides of nitrogen. Off-gases are directed to a reaction chamber wherein CO, H2 and VOC's are oxidized at a controlled temperature and with a controlled quantity of O2 So as to realize substantially total oxidation of gases present with minimized formation of oxides of nitrogen. Volume and energy of treated gases directed for baghouse treatment are reduced in comparison with prior practice.

  • Patent number: 6340378
Abstract: A process and apparatus for separating briquettes and fragments in a product stream resulting from briquetting direct reduced iron. Separating and cooling of the briquettes and fragments are carried out simultaneously in an initial step with use of separating means submerged in a cooling bath. The process enables use of less rugged apparatus following the initial step and the apparatus is not subjected to handling the product stream at the elevated temperatures at which briquetting is carried out. Capital expenditure and equipment maintenance is thus reduced.

  • Patent number: 5957404
Abstract: An apparatus and method for pressing a rotatable ironing roll against an outermost wrap of strip material being coiled with substantially constant force and at a minimum constant distance from the tangent point of entry of the strip onto the coil, comprising an ironing roll support linearly and pivotally movable with respect to the coil, a sensor to determine a position of the ironing roll and to determine a corresponding desired roll pressure, and a cam connected to the ironing roll support and adapted to cause the ironing roll to follow a curved locus of the tangent point as the coil diameter increases.
