Patent number: 6354734Abstract: An apparatus for accurate temperature and pressure measurement in production processes is described. In designing the temperture pressure probe, novel features are described which include minimization of the thermal mass of the thermal probe, thermal isolation of the thermal probe from its surroundings, and generating turbulence in the vicinity of the thermal probe where it comes in contact with the fluid flow. Embodiments disclosed for the pressure sensor include a recessed position where fluid pressure transients are minimized, and a surface mounted pressure sensor that is useful where the pressure sensor of the first embodiment is likely to get clogged due to fluid composition.Type: GrantFiled: November 4, 1999Date of Patent: March 12, 2002Assignee: Kvaerner Oilfield Products, Inc.Inventors: Christopher John Curran, Paul Frederick Kent, Robert Tyler, Iain Robert McFarlane

Patent number: 6113157Abstract: An apparatus for joining two flowlines, one having an external flanged end and the other an enlarged flaring portion at one end. A ball with an axial flow passage is seated in receptacle cavities formed in said ends and in fluid-tight sealing engagement therewith. A collar is sleeved and clamped about the flared end of the second flowline by bolts which connect the first flowline flange with the collar. Piston drive means are provided for driving against the collar to stretch the bolts by an amount sufficient to release the second flowline member and allow limited articulated movement of the second flowline without compromising the seal effectiveness of the joint.Type: GrantFiled: April 9, 1998Date of Patent: September 5, 2000Assignee: Kvaerner Oilfield ProductsInventor: Robert Lee Wilkins

Patent number: 6050544Abstract: A coupling element is disclosed that is capable of axial and lateral movement for use in connecting fluid lines such as control lines used in subsea drilling. The coupling element has a male sealing element with a first end, a second end, and a longitudinal axis extending between the first end and the second end. The male sealing element defines a generally frusto-conical sealing surface. A fluid passageway for the transmission of fluids is defined through the male sealing element along the longitudinal axis. The generally frusto-conical sealing surface forms a metal-to-metal seal when mated with a female sealing element. A female sealing element with a sealing surface that is complementary to the generally frustoconical sealing surface of the male coupling element is also disclosed. The female sealing element forms a pressure energized metal-to-metal seal with the male sealing element when the two are mated. A poppet valve element may be positioned within the fluid passageway of the female sealing element.Type: GrantFiled: September 11, 1997Date of Patent: April 18, 2000Assignee: Kvaerner Oilfield ProductsInventor: Richard A.
