  • Patent number: 7349546
Abstract: A system and method are presented for identifying, in an electrical device having an audio interface port, a headset type. The system includes a microcontroller logic unit with an output, connected to a test network, to supply a test voltage. The test network also is connected to the audio interface port. The test network can include combinations of resistors, capacitors, and switches. A voltage determination sub-system has an input connected to the interface port line and an output to supply a determination signal responsive to voltage at the audio interface port. The logic unit has an input connected to the determination sub-system output and compares determination signal values with a predetermined threshold value to identify a headset type connected to the audio interface port.

  • Patent number: 7346342
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided that enable a wireless communication device to send a predetermined data object to a destination address for the companion wireless communication device in an active voice call. When an active voice call is in session, a data object is identified such as an image captured by an integrated digital camera. A destination address module obtains the destination address of for the companion wireless communication device and the data object is then sent to the destination address over a data communication channel that is established simultaneously with the active voice call.

  • Patent number: 7336228
Abstract: A stack-up configuration for a wireless communication device includes a display and keypad on a front face of a housing for the device. A battery for providing power to the components of the wireless communication device is stacked behind the display. A circuit board that holds processing and RF circuitry for the wireless communication device is stacked behind the battery, with a top surface of the circuit board adjacent the battery. Noisy circuitry on the circuit board is covered by shielding on a back surface of the circuit board. An external or internal antenna is connected to the circuit board at a feed point. The antenna in one embodiment of the invention is stacked behind the circuit board, that is, between a back face of the housing and the back surface of the circuit board. The location of the battery between the display and the circuit board lowers the amount of energy radiating from the wireless communications device in the concerned near field range.

  • Patent number: 7328007
Abstract: A system and method are provided for organizing field upgradeable system software in a wireless communications device. The software is organized into a first plurality of symbol libraries or code sections. Contiguously addressed memory blocks store the symbol libraries or code sections. The start addresses of code sections or symbol libraries are stored in a code section address table cross-referencing code section identifiers with corresponding start addresses. Each symbol is offset from its respective code section start address. Symbol identifiers are cross-referenced with corresponding offset addresses, and corresponding code section identifiers in a symbol offset address table. A symbol accessor code is used to identify symbol addresses using the code section address table and the symbol offset address table.

  • Patent number: 7316590
Abstract: An electronic data connector of a wireless communication device for receiving a male section of a different electronic connector includes an electronic data connector receptacle universal to different electronic connectors and having a female section with a recess for receiving the male section of the different electronic connectors. A changeable connector key is carried by the electronic data connector receptacle and includes one or more positive material obstructions that obstruct one or more portions of the recess of the female section so that only an electronic connector with a male section configured to accommodate the positive material obstructions will mate with the electronic data connector receptacle.

  • Patent number: 7313365
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for processing a digital only call origination request. When the digital call is released, a wireless communication device does not scan for a more preferred communication system, even if the wireless communication device has acquired a less preferred communication system. Instead, the device continues to be locked onto the current system. The device may wait until the expiration of a re-scan timer.

  • Patent number: 7308290
Abstract: A mobile telephone handset includes an elongated housing having a carabiner latch pivotally attached at a battery door on the rear side of the housing. The carabiner latch includes a hook portion having a spring-biased latch pivotally attached thereto for attaching the latch to a support element, such as a strap, loop or ring attached to a back-pack or other article of wearing apparel. The latch is stored within a door recess that receives the latch for storage purposes. The latch can be swung outwardly away from the housing to a variety of positions. A cylindrical projection is disposed within the door recess for frictionally receiving a central opening of the latch. A finger grip recess disposed within the door facilitates the grasping of the latch when it is disposed within the recess to facilitate swinging it away from the housing and out of the recess.

  • Patent number: 7302271
Abstract: A system and method are described for determining when to exit an existing wireless communication coverage network. The method samples the device geographical position, determines a threshold boundary line, measures the position of each sample point with respect to the threshold boundary line, and, beginning at a predetermined initial value, maintains a running sum in response to measuring position. The existing coverage network is exited when the running sum is greater than or equal to a predetermined terminal value.

  • Patent number: 7299036
Abstract: A method for creating a contact on a mobile device includes processing a request from a user to create a contact or group. After a predetermined period, if a confirmation of the creation of the contact or group has not been received, then the group is deleted from the mobile device. In one aspect the predetermined time period is measured from the time of the request to create the contact or group. In another aspect, the predetermined time period is longer than the group creation time.

  • Patent number: 7298765
Abstract: A system and a method are provided for multiplexing digital and analog signals to and from a device using a single electrical connector. The system includes a connector with at least four lines and analog and digital interfaces attached to the connector. The interfaces share: first and second analog-to-digital converters (ADCs); and first, second, and third switches. The analog interface includes an audio sub-system with a third ADC and first, second, and third digital-to-analog converters (DACs). The digital interface includes a digital sub-system. The switches have first terminals attached to the connector, second terminals connected to the third ADC and the DACs. The switches open in response to a digital mode signal, enabling a digital signal path from the digital interface terminals to the connector. The switches close in response to an analog mode signal, enabling an analog signal path from the connector to the audio sub-system.

  • Patent number: 7288962
Abstract: A level shifting multiplexing circuit provides an interface between a two conductor full duplex bus (two conductor bus) and a single conductor bidirectional half duplex bus (single conductor bus) where the two conductor bus is operates at a first supply voltage and the single conductor bus operates at a second supply voltage. A first switching circuit connected between the single conductor bus and the reception conductor of the two conductor bus is configured to provide a low logic signal to the reception conductor when a first switching voltage threshold is exceeded and to provide a high logic signal, otherwise. A second switching circuit connected between the single conductor bus and the transmission conductor of the two conductor bus is configured to provide a voltage less than the first switching voltage threshold when voltage at the transmission conductor exceeds a second switching voltage threshold unless a high logic signal is received on the single conductor bus.
