  • Patent number: 6151904
Abstract: An air jet system is provided that includes a refrigerated display case. The novel apparatus includes a glass display window, which is transparent and has an outer surface for viewing the contents of the display case. The unit also has a front bar that defines an air passage therein when connected to a bracket and also defines a channel at one of its ends which has at least one opening. The bracket connects and supports the display window and the front bar on the display case. A nozzle is positioned in the channel and has holes therein for air passage and is positioned to direct air through the opening in the end of the front bar and onto the outer surface of the display window. A centrifugal blower is connected to the bracket and is adapted to blow air through the air passage and through the holes in the nozzle so that air is guided over the outer surface of the glass display window to eliminate moisture condensation.

  • Patent number: 5400823
Abstract: A viscous fluid shear clutch comprises a two-part outer casing 14,15 and an inner clutch member 10 between which is defined a clearance gap into which viscous fluid may flow to provide an adjustable degree of coupling between the casing and the clutch members. Fluid is continually pumped out of the gap by a circumferential scoop pummp. The clutch may be assembled for reverse operation by indexing the casing parts relative to one another. The quantity of fluid in the gap may be controlled dependent on sensed temperature and sensed speed or sensed temperature alone. A thermo pressure valve provides a pressure force related to the sensed temperature; this relationship may be inverse for failsafe operation.

  • Patent number: 4924986
Abstract: The invention relates to a viscous fluid variable drive to a rotary cooling fan for an engine, the drive being automatically controlled in response to sensed parameters such as temperature. In one example the drive unit includes an inner drive member 14 within a casing 10, 11 which includes a pump 24 continuously delivering fluid from the gap to a central valve port 25 when the fluid returns to a reservoir 20 and then spills through an aperture 26 back into the clearance gap. The valve port 25 in the supply passage from the pump is automatically controlled by a valve 30 actuated by compressed air in a line 36 from a remote thermal sensing unit. In another embodiment the valve 30 is controlled by a bi-metal strip 46 sensitive to ambient air. The pressure from the pump may also be used to actuate a servo valve 61 controlling tbe return flow of fluid from the reservoir 20 to the clearance gap. The valve may be in two separate units controlled spearately by valve elements 101 and 30'".

  • Patent number: 4923175
Abstract: A gear box trailer support having axially fixed gears in the gear box, including axially fixed larger and smaller input means on an input shaft, and axially fixed smaller and larger output gear elements of a gear cluster on the output cross shaft to the bevel gear drive for the elevating screw in the telescopic leg subassembly. The input gears are in constant engagement with their mating respective output gears. Shifting between high speed low torque output and low speed high torque output is achieved by axial movement of the input shaft within and relative to the hubs of the input gears. This input shaft has a male transverse drive pin which selectively engages cooperative transverse female sloped wall drive slots in the facing inner axial ends of the axially fixed input gears.

  • Patent number: 4909367
Abstract: A viscous fluid clutch for driving a cooling fan 18 from the crankshaft of an internal combustion engine includes an outer rotary casing 11, 12 connected to the fan and an inner rotary member 10 connected to the crankshaft coupling 9. The clearance gap between these two members is normally occupied by a viscous fluid and the drive is automatically adjusted by varying the quantity of fluid in the gap. A scoop pump 22 continuously pumps fluid from the gap inwards along passage 24 to a reservoir 20 via control valve 50, and the fluid returns to the clearance gap from the reservoir via a port 26. The valve 50 includes a piston 61, which is subject on one side of the pressure of the fluid supplied by the scoop pump 22, and hence to the relative speed of rotation between the crankshaft and the fan. In the other direction the piston 61 is subject to the fluid servo pressure in a conduit 48 derived from the sensed temperature of the engine coolant in duct 40.

Abstract: Disclosed is a pulley and bearing assembly for attachment to a cooling fan clutch of an internal combustion engine. The pulley is of polymeric construction, having a peripheral rim and an axial end integral therewith, the other end being open. It defines an internal chamber with guide ribs therein to locate the bearing assembly radially and axially within the chamber. The exterior has a belt engagement surface of desired type. The bearing assembly preferably has a wave form spacer for controlled spacing of individual bearing elements, and novel lubricant dispenser structure. The polymeric pulley can be of various forms combined with the bearing assembly which acts as a universal type bearing for fitting various type engines.

  • Patent number: 4682679
Abstract: A viscous fluid transmission including a rotary casing adapted to receve a viscous fluid and a rotary element within the casing. The casing and the rotary element are connected respectively to two drive shafts. Means is provided for pumping the fluid from its normal position in the casing into a holding reservoir or other displaced zone so as to reduce the quantity of fluid in contact with the rotary element and hence the transmitted torque. Means is also provided for varying the pumping action to modify the quantity of fluid in the casing.

  • Patent number: 4616484
Abstract: A refrigerant heating and cooling system for a motor vehicle includes an inside coil, an outside coil, expansion valves, a reversing valve, a refrigerant compressor, a chiller and a control device. The compressor, outside coil, an expansion valve and the inside coil define a first circuit for cooling the air within the vehicle. The compressor, inside coil, an expansion valve and the chiller define a second circuit for heating the interior of the vehicle. The chiller is a refrigerant-to-engine coolant heat exchanger. When in the heating mode, the chiller functions as an evaporator, the inside coil functions as a condenser and the engine coolant system is the heat source. The control device varies the flow of the engine coolant through the chiller as a function of the engine coolant temperature in order to maintain a relatively constant set temperature within the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 4550939
Abstract: A security strike plate assembly comprises a strike plate that is mounted directly on the door framing by rigid bushings and mating screws. Holes are drilled through the door jamb and into the door framing a predetermined distance to form shoulders at the bottoms of the holes. The rigid bushings are closely received in the holes, and extend from the shoulders to the interior surface of the strike plate. The screws extend through mating apertures in the strike plate and the central apertures of the bushings, and into the door framing, such that selected forces applied to the strike plate are transmitted to and resisted by the door.
