Patent number: 10461905Abstract: A solution for operating a radio communication apparatus exchanges narrowband control messages with other radio communication apparatuses, each control message comprising a pilot sequence and an identifier identifying a transmitter of the control message. The radio communication apparatus receives a broadband signal through a broadband radio receiver and correlates sub-bands of the received signal so as to detect a narrowband control message within the received broadband signal. Upon detection of the narrowband control message on a sub-band of the received broadband signal, the transmitter of the narrowband control message is determined from the identifier of the narrowband control message. It is also determined from the reception of the narrowband control message on the sub-band that the sub-band is preferred by the transmitter of the narrowband control message, and said sub-band is utilized in data communication with the transmitter of the narrowband control message.Type: GrantFiled: August 18, 2017Date of Patent: October 29, 2019Assignee: KYYNEL OYInventors: Toni Linden, Matti Raustia, Teemu Vanninen

Patent number: 10433305Abstract: A solution for operating a radio communication apparatus communicating with at least one other apparatus is provided. In communication, a frequency block of a set of frequency blocks having a given center frequency is utilized. The center frequencies of at least some adjacent frequency blocks are separated by a given frequency offset. The offset is selected such that the adjacent frequency blocks are partly overlapping and the apparatus receiving a given frequency interprets a signal separated from the given signal by the offset as noise.Type: GrantFiled: September 8, 2016Date of Patent: October 1, 2019Assignee: KYYNEL OYInventors: Matti Raustia, Teemu Vanninen

Patent number: 10097308Abstract: A method for performing link adaptation includes in a first network node of a wireless network: initializing data transmission with a second network node of the wireless network by transmitting a request-to-send message to the second network node and by receiving a clear-to-send message from the second network node, wherein the request-to-send message and the clear-to-send message are transmitted on one or more channels of the wireless network; after said initializing, generating a first data packet of the data transmission, wherein said generating comprises processing the first data packet with link adaptation parameters fixedly associated for use in connection with first data packets of data transmissions, wherein said link adaptation parameters are included in a subset of most robust link adaptation parameters supported by the first network node; receiving, from the second network node, a message indicating new link adaptation parameters for use in a subsequent data transmission; and generating a second daType: GrantFiled: February 28, 2017Date of Patent: October 9, 2018Assignee: Kyynel OyInventors: Teemu Antero Vanninen, Matti Petteri Raustia, Toni Ilmari Linden

Patent number: 9655129Abstract: A method and an apparatus for bundling data packet acknowledgments in a wireless communication device is disclosed. The method includes determining a metric proportional to a communication distance between the wireless communication device and a counterpart wireless communication device; selecting a number of data packet acknowledgments to be bundled together according to the determined communication distance such that when the communication distance is higher, the higher number of data packet acknowledgments are bundled together into a single acknowledgment message; and causing transmission of the acknowledgment message comprising the selected number of data packet acknowledgments.Type: GrantFiled: November 27, 2012Date of Patent: May 16, 2017Assignee: KYYNEL OYInventors: Toni Linden, Teemu Vanninen, Matti Raustia

Patent number: 9300355Abstract: A radio network uses two sequences to identify a receiver of a message. The receiver is identified with a network sequence and a recipient sequence both included in the message, wherein the network sequence is a group identifier, such as a network identifier, and has better autocorrelation properties than the recipient sequence.Type: GrantFiled: September 23, 2013Date of Patent: March 29, 2016Assignee: Kyynel OyInventors: Toni Linden, Teemu Vanninen, Matti Raustia
