Abstract: A system and method are provided for review of a trainee being trained in simulation. The system has a computerized simulator displaying to the trainee a real-time out-the-window (OTW) scene of video made up of a series of images each rendered in real-time from stored scene data. A review system stores or displays a view of the OTW scene video as seen from a time-variable detected viewpoint of the trainee. Each frame of this video is independently rendered in a single pass from the scene data using a projection matrix that is derived from a detected eyepoint and line of sight of the trainee. A HUD display with imagery superimposed on the OTW view may advantageously combined with the perspective-distorted imagery of the review system. The video displayed or stored by the review system accurately records or displays the OTW scene as seen by the trainee.

  • Patent number: 7978747
Abstract: A method of transmitting a spread spectrum signal in a single communication session between a transmitter and a receiver, stores a series of N unique waveform designs and a hopping sequence in a transmitter memory. A signal is transmitted to a receiver according to the hopping sequence using the plurality of N unique waveform designs. Preferably, each waveform design is characterized by a unique composite spreading code that is formed by at least some of a plurality of constituent code segments. Alternatively or additionally, the waveform designs may differ by any one or more of code length, symbol or chip timing or phase, frame or burst structure, chip offset, modulation, error control coding, encryption scheme, or scrambling code. A transmitter and receiver are also disclosed, as is the concept of appending chips between symbols to expand the universe of unique spreading codes without incurring an increase in processing gain.

  • Publication number: 20110148686
Abstract: Sensing moving entities includes transmitting a stepped-frequency radar signal including multiple frequencies through a wall from a first side of the wall to a second side of the wall. Portions of the radar signal that are reflected by entities located beyond the second side of the wall are detected. The reflected portions are processed to generate processed data including information associated with frequency shifts between the transmitted signal and the detected signal. The processed data is analyzed to determine if reflected portions are associated with moving entities.

  • Publication number: 20110151575
Abstract: Energy released from energized particles is sensed. Whether the energized particles include a possible energetic material is determined based on the sensed energy. If a determination is made that the energized materials include a possible energetic material, a spectral signature of the sensed energy is determined. The spectral signature of the sensed energy is compared to one or more known spectral signatures associated with energetic materials. Whether the possible energetic material is an actual energetic material is determined based on the comparison.

  • Publication number: 20110130897
Abstract: A flight display system provides advanced, or previewed, indications of the aircraft's position relative to an approach via a primary flight display. The primary flight display displays one or both of horizontal and vertical deviation indicators with respect to the aircraft's current position prior to the aircraft reaching the final approach. A feature of the horizontal and vertical deviation indicators may change on the primary flight display when the aircraft reaches the final approach, such as their color. The display system may also include an approach annunciator that provides an indication of the type of approach and the navigation source for the approach. The approach annunciator is displayed prior to the final approach becoming the active leg of the flight plan. The previewed information may appear automatically on the primary flight display based upon a distance of the aircraft to the airport or runway.

  • Publication number: 20110095913
Abstract: A method and system for displaying three dimensional images of runways and terrain, as well as additional information, on one or more screens of an avionics display system is provided. The system merges elevation information for terrain points and elevation information for runway points by grouping runways together that are within a threshold distance of each other. For each group, a plane is calculated. The calculated plane is then projected onto all of the runways within the group. The plane may also be projected onto a subset of neighboring terrain points. The adjusted elevation created by the projection of the plane are then used in creating the images for display on the synthetic vision display. The result is that all of the runways within a group, along with their neighboring terrain, are displayed as being coplanar.
