Abstract: Nyquist folded bandpass sampling receivers are disclosed that utilize narrow band filters in parallel with wideband filters to enhance reception of ultra wideband (UWB) pulses. The addition of the narrow band filter facilitates the reception of ultra wideband signal pulses and, therefore, extends the Nyquist folding bandpass sampling receiver to allow improved processing of ultra wideband (UWB) pulses. RF sampling circuitry utilizing a modulated sampling clock signal can then better capture UWB pulse signals.

Abstract: A matched filter decorrelator is described for efficiently performing a carrier frequency search while despreading a P/N long code constructed from two or more constituent codes such as codes A, B, C. The received signal is phase rotated into a frequency bin and partially despread, preferably over all but one of the constituent codes. To despread the final constituent code, the partially despread signal is input in parallel into frequency bins, where a phase rotator sets each input to a different bin. The frequency bins are then despread in parallel over the final constituent code, and an energy peak in one accumulator indicates which bin is the carrier frequency. Alternatively, a Fourier transform could be used over each of the frequency bins. By partially despreading prior to division into carrier frequency bins, hardware and computational burden are reduced as compared to prior art decorrelators. The present invention is particularly apt for use with an acquisition burst in a secure network.

Abstract: Multiple cochannel FM signals received, for example, in an overloaded signal environment may be separated using parallel interference cancellation techniques.
Abstract: Application Specific Integrated Circuit (“ASIC”) devices, such as Field Programmable Gate Arrays (“FPGAs”), may be interconnected using serial I/O connections, such as high speed multi-gigabit serial transceiver (“MGT”) connections. For example, serial I/O connections may be employed to interconnect a pair of ASICs to create a high bandwidth, low signal count connection, and in a manner so that any given pair of multiple ASIC devices on a single circuit card may communicate with each other through no more than one serial data communication link connection step. A reconfigurable hardware architecture (“RHA”) may be configured to include a communications infrastructure that uses a high-bandwidth packet router to establish standard communications protocols between multiple interfaces and/or multiple devices that may be present on a single circuit card. Additionally, a communications infrastructure may be established across multiple circuit cards.

Abstract: A multi-sectored, multiple access communication system provides for low-skew sector transceiver clocks by novelly utilizing a multi-tap digital Phase-Locked Loop (PLL) in the delay match circuitry of each transceiver to efficiently and inexpensively generate clock signals for each transceiver that are temporally aligned within acceptable limits of the other transceivers. The inventive system and method obviate the need for matching the lengths of all of the cables connecting the base station (“master sector equipment”) to the transceivers (“slave sector equipment”), and also reduces the power requirement as a byproduct.

The secure component may comprise a secure CPU executing a secure operating system. The non-secure component may comprise a separate non-secure CPU executing a separate non-secure operating system. The touch sensitive display on the handheld communications device is divided into a secure portion and a non-secure portion such that information displayed in the secure portion is provided by the secure operating system, and information displayed in the non-secure portion is provided by the non-secure operating system. Similarly, data entered through the secure portion of the display is provided to the secure operating system, and data entered through the non-secure portion of the display is provided to the non-secure operating system.
Abstract: A system and method for GPS acquisition in relatively high interference is described. Acquisition is aided by an Advanced Tightly Coupled (ATC) tracking filters that compute a satellite range residuals and range rate residuals for satellites being acquired. Multiple channels are used in parallel to search for the desired satellites. Range residuals from the ATC filters are used to correct the computed receiver offset and thus allow acquisition in the presence of relatively high interference.
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide a method and apparatus for all-polarization direction finding. The method and apparatus generally include acquiring measurements at least partially corresponding to an emitted signal and generated utilizing a blind signal extraction algorithm, forming an all-polarization cost function utilizing the acquired measurements, and determining an angle of arrival for the emitted signal utilizing the formed all-polarization cost function. Such a configuration enables angles of arrivals to be easily determined for signals having any polarization without using a multiple signal classification (MUSIC) algorithm.

Abstract: The signal-to-noise ratio of a demodulated received signal is estimated by measuring the error vector magnitude (EVM) of the demodulated signal; and processing the measured EVM in combination with a correction term to estimate the signal-to-noise ratio of the demodulated signal. The correction term is a polynomial function of the measured EVM. The signal-to-noise ratio is estimated in accordance with the formula: E S N 0 ? 10 · LOG 10 ? ( ? · ? E S ? 4 ? [ ? ^ z + C ? ( ? ^ z ) ] 2 ) ? ? ( dB ) wherein {circumflex over (?)}z is the measured EVM based on the mean of a Rayleigh density of EVM measurements; and C is the correction term. For QPSK modulated signals, C is calculated in accordance with the formula: CQPSK({circumflex over (?)}z)?2.71×10?3{circumflex over (?)}z3?7.54×10?2{circumflex over (?)}z2+0.7{circumflex over (?)}z?2.25. For BPSK modulated signals, C is calculated in accordance with the formula: CBPSK({circumflex over (?)}z)?1.

Abstract: A power supply for an ion engine comprises a multiphase alternator and a power converter comprising a voltage multiplier coupled to each phase of the alternator. Each voltage multiplier comprises one or more staged voltage doublers. The alternator phases may be coupled to each other in a Y configuration such that no common return line is required, and each phase of the alternator provides equal amounts of constant power in a balanced, sequential flow. The converter corrects for the alternator's inherent internal reactance, thereby minimizing the required output of the alternator and reducing the overall power required of the system. A controllable impedance can be inserted into a low voltage portion of the multiplier for selectably varying the output voltage and power of the supply.
