  • Patent number: 9272940
Abstract: An ion transport membrane, a heat exchanger, and a recuperator are integrated with a float glass manufacturing process. Only feeds of fuel and air are necessary for producing hot oxygen for a melting furnace and a nitrogen-enriched stream to a float bath. The oxygen and nitrogen are produced on-site without requiring cryogenic distillation.

  • Publication number: 20100242811
Abstract: A carbon fuel combustion process, employing an air gas separation unit, a combustion unit operating either with air or with an oxidizer leaner in nitrogen than air, coming from the air gas separation unit, and a unit for compressing and/or purifying the CO2 coming from the combustion flue gas, wherein the power consumed by the air gas separation unit and/or the flow of oxygen produced by the air gas separation unit and/or the capture of the CO2 coming from the combustion flue gas are variable over time is presented.

  • Patent number: 6347534
Abstract: Air is separated in a triple column comprising a high pressure column, an intermediate pressure column and a low pressure column, the intermediate pressure column being fed by oxygen enriched liquid from the high pressure column. The low pressure column feeds an argon column with argon enriched liquid and operates at a higher pressure than the argon column. Heat is supplied to the bottom of the argon column by sending gas to a bottom reboiler. This gas is preferably rich in nitrogen and may come from the top of the low pressure column.

  • Patent number: 5522916
Abstract: A high-speed jet of liquid oxygen (21) with a speed higher than 100 meters per second is delivered into the tuyeres of a blast furnace of cupola furnace together with pulverised carbon. The jet reaches the opposite wall of the cavity (9) formed at the outlet of the tuyere (6) in the mass of material contained in the shaft. Supplying oxygen to the bottom of the cavity improves the burning of the remaining coal, whereby higher injection levels may be achieved. The shape of the cavity may also be altered, and, in particular, faster reactions may be achieved in the axial region of the shaft.

  • Patent number: 5307639
Abstract: Transfer line for cryogenic fluid comprising a transfer conduit (1) for cryogenic fluid and a conduit (3) for cooling fluid surrounded by a metallic shield (4) coupled thermally to the cooling conduit (3). The metal shield (4) is a thin strip wound in unsecured manner about the conduits (1, 3) and locally connected to the cooling conduit (3) by resilient clips (5) or by a layer (6) of connecting material. The metallic strip has a thickness no greater than 0.1 mm and can be of aluminum.

  • Patent number: 5305630
Abstract: The line of gas to be analyzed, the "zero" gas line and calibration gas line are each provided with a restriction operating in sonic rate supplying a nominal constant flow and downstream, have a discharge duct provided with a flow regulator. The nominal flows in the first and second lines are higher than the given flow supplied to the analyzer so that during each of the calibration and analysis steps, the whole of the circuit portion of the device is permanently flushed with the nominal gas of the line and/or by a portion of the recirculated flow of gas originating from another line.

  • Patent number: 5273701
Abstract: To remove a layer of thermoplastic material, particularly of polyethylene, adhering to a substrate, particularly a strip of aluminum, there is directed against a region of the layer of thermoplastic material (2) a shaped jet (10) of hot inert gas, containing for example principally helium, to melt the thermoplastic material and the jet is displaced relative to the coated substrate to push back (11) the melted thermoplastic material. The gas or the gaseous between 300.degree. C. and 700.degree. C., by an electric resistance (20), adjacent the ejection nozzle (4).

  • Patent number: 5141208
Abstract: The process comprises the steps of mounting two rotary furnaces in series including a smelting station and a charge preheating station, effecting a smelting in the furnace at the smelting station while causing the fumes from the first furnace to pass through the furnace at the preheating station towards an exhaust chimney to preheat the charge in the preheating furnace, and transferring the furnace which is at the smelting station towards a casting station. To enable the various transfers of furnaces each furnace is associated with a transfer support including a device for causing rotation of the furnace.

  • Patent number: 4568386
Abstract: A process for refining pig iron from below the surface of a molten metal bath, and the resulting product, in which an oxidizing gas is injected in the bath and, during the last refining stage, a mixture of oxidizing gas and inert gas is further injected. The inert gas content x of the mixture is made to vary according to a law corresponding to an oxidizing gas dilution curve that is located in an area determined by two envelope curves, to wit, a first maximum dilution curve defined by the straight line portions:x=-766.7 %C+168.7 for 0.16<%C<0.22x=-550 %C+134 for 0.1<%C<0.16x=-233 %C+102 for %C<0.1and a second minimum dilution curve defined by the straight line portions:x=-1500 %C+255 for 0.14<%C<0.17x=-400 %C+101 for 0.1<%C<0.14x=-230 %C+84 for 0.05<%C<0.1x=-72.5 for %C<0.
