Patent number: 5275179Abstract: A flexible planar pad having a top, bottom, side edges, and opposite leg engaging surfaces. The leg engaging surfaces comprises a soft resilient material so that the skin and flesh of the inner portion of a patient's legs will be protected from abrasive action. A first strap means is secured to the pad adjacent its upper end for securing the pad to a patient's leg just above the knee. A second strap means is secured to the pad adjacent the bottom thereof for securing the pad to the patient's leg just above the ankle. A third strap means can be used alternately and it is secured to the pad just below the knee portion to again secure the pad to the leg of the patient just below the knee.Type: GrantFiled: March 29, 1991Date of Patent: January 4, 1994Assignee: L'Nard Associates, Inc.Inventor: Robert Lonardo

Patent number: 5224925Abstract: A plastic foot splint has a back portion, a heel portion, and a foot portion, with the foot portion normally being positioned at a substantial right angle with respect to the leg portion. The splint is of resilient spring-like material to permit the foot portion to be forcibly deflected at the heel portion to create an obtuse angle with respect to the leg portion. A diagonally extending frame connects the heel and foot portions. Expandable means comprising telescopically secured side members allow the frame to maintain its connection between the heel and foot portions when the foot portion is forcibly moved to form an acute angle with respect to the leg portion. Lock elements are on the frame to rigidly hold the foot portion in a preselected obtuse angular relationship with respect to the leg portion.Type: GrantFiled: June 15, 1992Date of Patent: July 6, 1993Assignee: L'Nard Associates, Inc.Inventor: Harold T. Varn

Patent number: 5205812Abstract: A contour hand splint having an elongated base member for attachment to the forearm and wrist of a patient, with a lower end terminating adjacent the patient's fingers. A crossbar extends across the lower end of the base member. A resilient pad extends along the inner surface of the base member, and a flexible resilient pad member is wrapped around the crossbar to receive and support the curved fingers of a patient suffering from finger contractures. Strap means secured to the base member with fasteners thereon secure the splint to the patient's arm and wrist.Type: GrantFiled: January 13, 1992Date of Patent: April 27, 1993Assignee: L'Nard Associates, Inc.Inventor: Constance V. Patent number: 5154695Abstract: This invention pertains to a plastic foot splint having a horizontal foot portion, a contoured upstanding leg portion and a heel portion connecting the foot and leg portions. The heel portion has a rearward side portion with an aperture therein to permit visual examination of the rearward portion of a patient's heel when the foot splint is mounted on one of the patient's feet. A stabilizer bar is pivotally secured by one of its ends to the leg portion. Ratchet teeth are located on one end of the stabilizer bar and on the leg portion at the location of its pivotal connection to the stabilizer bar to permit the stabilizer bar to be selectively held in a fixed position with respect to the leg portion.Type: GrantFiled: November 27, 1990Date of Patent: October 13, 1992Assignee: L'Nard Associates, Inc.Inventors: Harold J. Farris, J. Marvin Winn, Joseph P. Morrissey

Patent number: 5151081Abstract: This invention involves a foot splint which utilizes an L-shaped plastic splint element having an upstanding leg portion, a heel portion, and a foot portion extending forwardly from the heel portion. A suitable padding material is located on the inside surface of the plastic splint element. A first strap having a figure eight configuration extends from the upper outside portion of the plastic splint element forwardly and downwardly around the bottom of the foot portion, with segments of the strap overlapping each other in spaced relation above the foot portion. The strap is link adjustable for tightening about the foot of the patient. A stabilizer bar is pivotally secured by its upper end to the upper outside surface of the leg portion and is adapted to be pivotally moved in a transverse direction with respect to the leg portion.Type: GrantFiled: March 8, 1991Date of Patent: September 29, 1992Assignee: L'Nard Associates, Inc.Inventor: Paul J. Williams

Patent number: 4953569Abstract: A pad for preventing skin abrasions at the joints of persons having impaired mobility is disclosed comprising a substantially round pad means having a concave shape and inner and outer sides, a peripheral edge, and a central portion. The outer side of the pad means is comprised of a canvas-like material, and a pad element having the texture of wool fleece and having a central portion comprises the inner side of the pad means and is secured to the canvas-like material. A second pad means is secured to the central portion of the pad element. Elongated strap portions extend in opposite directions from the pad means with outer ends terminating beyond the periphery of the pad means. Suitable fasteners are secured to the outer ends of the strap portions. The strap portions and the second pad means are comprised of foam rubber. A plurality of ventilation holes are provided in the pad means and the pad element.Type: GrantFiled: May 17, 1988Date of Patent: September 4, 1990Assignee: L'nard Associates, Inc.Inventor: Robert Lonardo

Patent number: 4926884Abstract: The method of this invention pertains to preventing skin abrasions and the like in patients whose legs are substantially locked together in juxtaposition. The method comprises the taking of an elongated flexible planar pad with a length extending from above the patient's knees to the bottom of the patient's foot. The width of the pad is approximately one-half of the girth of one of the patient's legs. The pad is placed between the patient's legs so that the opposite sides of the pad cover the inner surface of at least one leg from a point above the knee to a point substantially to the bottom of the foot of one leg. The pad is affixed to one leg of the patient at points above the knee and above the ankle of one leg to hold the pad against any substantial movement with respect to the one leg. The apparatus of this invention comprises a pad for the foregoing method. The pad is a flexible planar pad having a top, a bottom, side edges, and opposite leg engaging surfaces.Type: GrantFiled: October 7, 1988Date of Patent: May 22, 1990Assignee: L'Nard Associates, Inc.Inventor: Robert Lonardo

Patent number: RE33762Abstract: A therapeutic leg and foot device comprising an L-shaped member having an elongated channel-like portion adapted to fit the posterior region of the lower leg and a foot portion extending integrally at right angles therefrom. The integral connection is curved to avoid contact with the patient's heel when the device is in place. The channel shape flattens out at the curved portion and is narrowed to promote the required flexing at this point. The device is constructed of resilient transparent acrylic plastic material which is resilient under a stress load but has sufficient rigidity to maintain a bed patient's foot in properly disposed position to prevent bed sores or drop foot. However, when used in the correction of drop foot, the foot portion is flexed away from the perpendicular to an obtuse angle with the leg portion to conform to the deformity. In this position the device exerts a 30 to 50 lb. pressure on the foot area to bias the foot back into normal position.Type: GrantFiled: September 4, 1990Date of Patent: December 10, 1991Assignee: L'Nard Associates, Inc.Inventor: Robert Lonardo
