  • Patent number: 5704595
Abstract: A nestably stackable pre-assembly for a box spring foundation having a top support surface formed by a substantially rectangular border wire, lateral surface support wires and longitudinal surface support wires. The top support surface is supported by a series of longitudinal formed wire structural support members having V-shaped sections extending down from the top support surface. The structural support members are attached to the surface support wires by clips. The V-sections of adjacent structural support members are angled towards each other in pairs such that they form a series of four-sided open-apex pyramids. The pre-assemblies can be stored and shipped by attaching a first pre-assembly to a bottom wooden frame, and stacking additional pre-assemblies on top of the first.

  • Patent number: 5704497
Abstract: A spinning display rack includes a base, a pole supported in a vertical position by the base, a top cap rotatably supported by the pole, a bottom cap rotatably supported by the pole, and a pair of generally U-shaped display grids attached in a back-to-back relationship to the top and bottom caps. The top and bottom caps are formed from sheet metal and have flanged holes for receiving the pole. The caps are supported by pins mounted on the pole. The display grids have vertical grid members whose ends extend through holes formed in the top and bottom caps and are secured to the caps with friction cap nuts. Shelves are mounted within the U-shaped enclosures of the display grids.

  • Patent number: 5699999
Abstract: A mattress inner spring core comprising a plurality of coil springs arranged in longitudinally extending columns and transversely extending rows. Each coil spring has an identically configured upper and lower end turn between which are a plurality of central convolutions defining a spring axis. Each end turn comprises first and second offset legs connected by a linear base web. A portion of a first leg of one end turn overlaps a portion of a second leg of an adjacent end turn in an overlapping region. Helical lacing wires encircle the legs of adjacent end turns to connect rows of springs. Each helical lacing wire has multiple revolutions encircling the overlapped legs of adjacent end turns with the same number of revolutions of the lacing wire encircling the overlapped portions of the legs and at least one complete revolution encircling a non-overlapped portion of the first and second legs of the end turns.

  • Patent number: 5697309
Abstract: Apparatus including a mattress support for supporting a mattress lying on a first major face or panel thereof and conveying the mattress as a sewing operation, such as an edge sewing and taping operation, is performed with respect to the first major face. A mattress flipping mechanism is provided and may include a pivoting support portion of the mattress support connected to a powered lift mechanism. Mattress elevating units are provided to create slack in the top panel of the mattress for easier grasping by the operator during a sewing operation. A mattress guide arm is provided for holding the mattress down during the sewing operation. A mattress inclining mechanism is provided for selectively moving the mattress from a generally horizontal orientation used for mattress conveying and flipping operations to an inclined orientation used during sewing to gravity feed the mattress into engagement with the sewing machine.

  • Patent number: 5685250
Abstract: Quilts (120) are made from unquilted comforter bags (206) without premounting the panel on a rectangular frame (11,11a). A leading edge clamp (50,250) is preattached along the leading edge of a panel and fed from an operator station (15) onto a shuttle (20) movably mounted on the frame of a programmed single needle quilting machine (10,10a). Opposed belt conveyors (61,62) on opposite sides of the shuttle (20) advance the clamp (50,250) and pull the panel onto the shuttle (20), gripping the side edges of the panel as it is pulled. A trailing edge clamp bar (48) frictionally engages the panel as the panel is pulled onto the shuttle (20). The shuttle (20) reciprocates longitudinally under a sewing head (18) that moves transversely on the frame (11,11a) to stitch a pattern in the panel.

  • Patent number: 5682994
Abstract: A collated stack of U-shaped sheet metal clips, each of which has an arcuate crown portion and first and second parallel leg portions depending from the crown portion. The first leg portion of each clip is juxtaposed immediately adjacent the second leg portion of the adjacent U-shaped clip. Each clip has two spaced apertures through the arcuate crown portion and at least one upstanding tab adjacent the edge of each aperture into which a non-metal elongate flexible connector is inserted and secured by folding the tab or tabs downwardly over the top of the aperture.

  • Patent number: 5669087
Abstract: A mattress spring core having a plurality of zones of differing firmnesses due to different characteristics of helical lacing connectors within the particular zones. The spring core has a plurality of identical coil springs arranged in side-by-side transversely extending rows and columns. The coil springs are connected together at the upper and lower ends of the springs with helical lacing connectors which encircle a portion of the upper and lower faces of the springs. The helical lacing connectors may be of a heavier gauge wire in one or more zones of the mattress spring core thus causing that particular zone to be of an increased firmness relative to the other zones of the mattress. Alternatively, the helical lacing connectors within a zone may comprise two or more co-axial lacing wires to impart greater strength or rigidity to one or more zones of the mattress.

  • Patent number: 5669093
Abstract: A pocketed coil spring assembly comprising a plurality of transversely extending integrally connected fabric blocks. Each block is defined between two sheets of fabric by transversely extending lines of attachment of the sheets to each other. Successive lines of attachment are located alternatively in the upper and lower planar surfaces of the assembly. The blocks may be further connected with fasteners in one of the planar surfaces of the assembly. The blocks may contain either continuous bands of coil springs or individual coil springs, but in any event, the springs within adjacent blocks are oppositely oriented to create a balanced spring assembly in which there is no tendency for the springs to tilt upon compression of the assembly.

  • Patent number: 5655241
Abstract: A mattress cover assembly for use with a zoned posturized mattress includes a cover with a stretchable top panel and a topper pad, lying generally loosely on the cover top panel. The mattress cover and topper pad are constructed so as to permit the direct application of and distribution of pressure from atop the mattress through the covering topper pad and cover and into the resilient mattress core without significant distortion of that pressure or weight and particularly without distortion which is not only caused by hammocking of the cover fabric or covering pad.
