Abstract: A method of cleaning potable liquid flow lines employing a high pH caustic cleaning solution or a low pH acid cleaning solution with a stable dye in sufficient concentration so as to have a visible color when the solution is further diluted. The cleaning solution is pumped through the lines. The lines then are flushed with clean water until no colored solution is discharged from the lines, indicating the lines have been purged of cleaning solution. The method can be used with draft beer, soft drink or other potable liquid flow lines to prevent inadvertent consumption of caustic cleaning solution along with subsequently dispensed potable liquid.
