Abstract: An apparatus for determining when an operational opening event occurs for a pressure relief valve. The apparatus includes a pressure relief valve lift indicator disposed adjacent to a portion of the pressure relief valve to determine the frequency of the operational opening events of the pressure relief valve. A method of monitoring a pressure relief valve. A pressure relief valve lift indicator is placed in close proximity to the pressure relief valve to determine when the pressure relief valve experiences an operational opening event. Operational data associated with the operational opening event is tracked.
