Abstract: A distributed parameter update procedure is provided for updating parameters that do not have discrete values. When a parameter value is changed, a search is conducted of a parameter space to find a new parameter value minimizes some cost function. The cost function is derived based on the current parameter settings in neighboring nodes. The distributed parameter update procedure may simplify the search process by localizing the search of the parameter space for a new parameter value to the vicinity of the current parameter setting. In some embodiments, the search is conducted along a line of steepest descent emanating from the current parameter setting.
Abstract: Methods and systems to minimize the number of messages transmitted between a client and a server in a client-server network. The messages may be error messages, and may be associated with a log such as an error log. The client requests permission of the server to transmit a message(s) to the server. Upon receipt of the request, the server provides the client with a filter, which may include a filter table with a filter parameter(s). The server may provide the filter in real time and/or without the client or server having to go off-line. The client uses the filter to filter at least a selected message from the message(s). Once the client has filtered the selected message the client transmits the selected message and/or the associated log of the selected message to the server.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided a circuit interconnect. In one embodiment of the disclosure, the circuit interconnect includes a dielectric layer. A parallel synchronous bus is disposed on the dielectric layer. The parallel synchronous bus includes at least four conductive traces. The conductive traces are non-uniformly spaced from one another along a portion of the bus where the conductive traces are physically aligned in parallel so that crosstalk interference among the conductive traces is equalized across the conductive traces.
Abstract: A network having distribution of access point loading includes access points to which mobile stations can associate themselves based upon access point beacon signal levels and loading levels for the various access points. A mobile station receives beacon signals from various access points and determines a signal strength for the received beacon signals. The mobile station also receives access point loading information from the access points. The mobile station associates with an access point based upon the access point beacon signal strengths and the access point loading information.
Abstract: A method for waking an information handling system includes receiving in a chassis a plurality of modular information handling systems and a plurality of modular information handling resources, routing access of one of the modular information handling resources to one or more of the plurality of modular information handling systems, monitoring a plurality of power management event lines, determining a wake message received at one of the modular information handling resources, determining which of the plurality of modular information handling systems is associated with the received wake message, forwarding a wake signal to the determined modular information handling system, and powering on the determined information handling system. The modular information handling resource is configured to receive a wake message. Each line is coupled one of the modular information handling resources.

Abstract: A rotary lock including a housing having a strike channel shaped to receive a strike component and a latch member including at least one strike engaging member. The latch member is rotatable between an unlatched position, a secondary latch position and a primary latch position. A keeper member is moveable between a disengaged position, a secondary keeper position, and a primary keeper position. A lock member is moveable between a lock position and an unlock position. The lock member and/or a lock actuator is non-movable to the lock position when the latch member is in the secondary latch position, thereby providing indicia that the latch member is not fully latched in a primary latch position. Methods of assembly and use are also provided.
Abstract: An optical apparatus for use in an optical communications network, and a method of operating a network are described. The apparatus includes an input suitable for receiving a first continuous wave optical signal from a remote location on a network, and a modifying unit arranged to modify the first continuous wave optical signal to produce a second continuous wave optical signal having a wavelength which is different from the wavelength of the first continuous wave optical signal. A modulating unit is arranged to modulate the second continuous wave optical signal with data to produce a modulated second continuous wave optical signal.
Abstract: A computer-implemented method of extracting key phrases from a document is disclosed comprising the steps of accessing a repository comprising linked subjects, the repository comprising first and second data structures representing the relationship between said subjects using different representation criteria; pruning the first data structure by removing links between subjects based on a further relationship between said subjects in the second data structure; matching phrases in said document to subjects in the pruned first data structure; further pruning the pruned first data structure by removing unmatched subjects that are not linked to matched subjects; determining a ranking for each matched subject; and selecting key phrases using the determined subject rankings. A computer program for implementing the steps of this method when executed on a computer is also disclosed.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for enabling a subscriber who is originating a call to a called party endpoint to specify call handling treatments when a busy or a no answer network condition is encountered when calling the called party endpoint with no subscribed network based voice mail service are disclosed. The subscriber, for example, can re-originate the call that is originally directed to a home phone number of the called party to a cellular phone number of the called party instead upon encountering a busy or no answer network condition.
Abstract: A device for applying or extracting a digital watermark of two or more dimensions and a method of applying or extracting the digital watermark. The digital watermark is generated by adding a suitable number of watermarking arrays. Each watermarking array is constructed by convolving a multi-periodic shift array having a correlation bounded by a constant (two or greater) with a balanced periodic substitution sequence.

Abstract: The present invention is a system and method for failing over from a current network access medium to an alternative network access medium. A customer premises equipment (CPE) box has ports for connections to a network through several network access media, such as high speed cable connections, DSL connections and dial-up connections. QoS parameters for each of the connections are monitored from a bandwidth manager remote from the CPE box. When it is determined that a fail-over would be beneficial, a message is sent from the bandwidth manager to the CPE box containing a command to fail-over and an identity of the alternate network access media.
