Patent number: 5042429Abstract: A ventilated age and rack system having an enclosed ventilated rack and a plurality of barrier cages on the shelves of the rack includes a liquid manifold for transporting a liquid to a plurality of predetermined positions along the shelves. A drinking valve is positioned within the cage to allow an animal to consume liquid supplied by the liquid manifold without leaving the cage. A coupling couples the liquid manifold to the drinking valve so that liquid may flow from the liquid manifold to within the cage when the cage is placed in the rack at the predetermined positions. An air plenum transports positive pressure air to the plurality of predetermined positions. A recessed grommet having holes therein is positioned in the bottom of each cage and allows air to pass from the air plenum to within the cage.Type: GrantFiled: January 25, 1989Date of Patent: August 27, 1991Assignee: Lab Products, Inc.Inventors: Eric A. Patent number: 4997287Abstract: A method for detecting temperature of an object to be measured such as a workpiece mounted on a coordinate measuring apparatus having a movable measuring arm. The measuring apparatus includes a sensing pin or a complete sensing head as well as a temperature sensor. For measuring temperature, the sensing pin or sensing head is exchanged for the temperature sensor having the same kind of holder as the sensing pin. Thereafter, the temperature sensor is moved to the object by the measuring arm of the apparatus and is placed in contact therewith. The registered temperature measurement values are used to correct the lengths and spacings measured with the coordinate measuring apparatus. The entire temperature and coordinate measuring operation is carried out completely automatically by the CNC control of the apparatus without the aid of operating personnel. A temperature sensor for carrying out the method is also disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: June 21, 1989Date of Patent: March 5, 1991Assignee: Lab Products, Inc.Inventor: Jakob Tittl

Patent number: 4785765Abstract: A laminar diffuser for use in a metabolic cage unit. The laminar diffuser includes an inclined serrated linear ramp which directs the urine to a urine collection vessel, and by its configuration, transports the feces past the urine collection vessel to a feces collection vessel, without mixing therebetween.Type: GrantFiled: October 3, 1986Date of Patent: November 22, 1988Assignee: Lab Products, Inc.Inventors: Neil E. Campbell, John V. Oldham

Patent number: 4640228Abstract: A cage assembly for small laboratory animals includes a cage having an open-top transparent body and optionally a containment member within the cage body to confine the animals. A filter cap for biologically isolating the encaged animals from the surrounding environment is disposed on the cage. The filter cap has a rigid transparent housing which rests upon and encompasses the cage. The marginal portion of the filter cap overhangs the marginal portion of the cage to prevent the filter cap from being dislodged from the cage. The filter cap has a perforated top wall against the under surface of which an air filter is detachably secured by retainer member which snaps into mounted position in which the filter is sandwiched between the perforated top wall and the retainer member, with the top wall protecting the filter against damage during handling of the filter cap.Type: GrantFiled: September 24, 1984Date of Patent: February 3, 1987Assignee: Lab Products, Inc.Inventors: Robert S. Sedlacek, Neil Campbell

Patent number: 4480587Abstract: A cage assembly for animals includes a cage having an open-top transparent body and a containment member for the cage body to confine the animals. A filter cap for biologically isolating the encaged animals from the environment surrounding the cage assembly is disposed on the cage. The filter cap has a substantially rigid transparent housing that rests on and encompasses the cage. A portion of the filter cap overhangs a portion of the cage to prevent the filter cap from being dislodged from the cage. An air filter is detachably secured to a roof portion of the filter cap and is protected from damage by a perforated metal plate. All elements of the filter cap are autoclavable and reusable.Type: GrantFiled: September 23, 1982Date of Patent: November 6, 1984Assignee: Lab Products, Inc.Inventor: Robert S. Sedlacek

Patent number: 4365590Abstract: A ventilated animal cage rack has a hollow housing divided into a plurality of horizontally-disposed shelf compartments separated from each other by partition walls and having front open ends normally closed off by transparent doors which isolate the interiors of the shelf compartments from each other and from the interior of the room containing the cage rack. Each shelf compartment is sized to contain a row of horizontally-spaced animal cages having open top ends and closed bottom ends, with the open top ends spaced well below the ceiling of the shelf compartment. A low pressure air plenum extends vertically along one side of the cage rack and communicates with one side of each of said shelf compartments, the other sides of which contain air inlet openings communicating with the room interior, thereby providing a low-pressure negative air flow along the top open ends of the contained animal cages to said air plenum and then to a room exhaust system.Type: GrantFiled: July 20, 1981Date of Patent: December 28, 1982Assignee: Lab Products, Inc.Inventors: Albert P. Ruggieri, Frank J. Marinaccio, Neil E. Campbell, Wayne Allen, Stanley Moum, Paul F. Malatesta, Joseph J. Pietrowski, Leonard H. Schwartz

Patent number: 4321277Abstract: The present invention relates to new and improved germicidal compositions having spermicidal properties comprising of a major amount of a mixture of n--C.sub.12-18 alkyl dimethyl benzyl ammonium halides and n--C.sub.12-14 alkyl dimethyl ethylbenzyl ammonium halides and a minor amount of a wetting agent selected from the group consisting of non-ionic, cationic and/or amphoteric surfactants and mixtures thereof.Spermicidal-germicidal compositions of the present invention possess new, improved and unexpected properties, particularly with respect to being biologically active against a wide range of organism including the venereal type organisms such as Neisseria gonorrhea, Treponema pallidum and other spirochetes, Hemophilus ducreyii, flagellates, such as Trichomonas vaginalis and related organisms. The compositions of the present invention have been found to exhibit spermicidal properties and, therefore, are particularly useful as a contraceptive. They are non-irritating towards vaginal tissues.Type: GrantFiled: February 4, 1980Date of Patent: March 23, 1982Assignee: Research Lab Products, Inc.Inventor: Vincent R. Saurino

Patent number: 4215650Abstract: An animal feeding apparatus comprises an open container, the front portion of which includes an inclined wire mesh ladder which projects outwardly and downwardly from the container and leads to an inclined ramp having a smooth and slippery surface, the ramp extending inwardly and downwardly into the container. A laboratory animal having easily climbed the ladder portion, finds the ramp member slippery, and is therefore restrained from entering the interior of the container. The animal thus remains poised on the ladder, extending only its head into the container to feed, so that food stored in the container remains in a neat and clean condition.Type: GrantFiled: May 9, 1979Date of Patent: August 5, 1980Assignee: Lab Products, Inc.Inventor: Neil E.
