  • Patent number: 6554526
Abstract: A fastening device for interconnecting two parts, comprising a longitudinally variable bolt designed to be inserted through a hole in a first part and engage the edge of an opening in a second part. The bolt is further configured to rotate about an axis that runs generally transversely across the longitudinal axis of the bolt, using the edge of the opening in the second part as a sliding track. The bolt defines a spring configuration intermediary of its ends so that the bolt may be compressed in the longitudinal direction and resumes its original length when it is released. The bolt is provided with grooves at opposing ends, which grooves extend generally transversely across the longitudinal axis of the bolt and are designed to engage the edge of the opening in the second part at diametrically opposed locations.

  • Patent number: 6351671
Abstract: A system for measuring and analyzing CPR parameters for use with and by an external defibrillator, where a pressure sensitive electrode is connected to a defibrillator, in addition to the standard electrodes of the defibrillator. The information from the pressure sensitive electrode, together with information derived from modulation of the impedance of the thorax, measured by the defibrillator, describes the quality of the CPR performed, and is used to generate voice messages that increase the quality and the effectiveness of the CPR. The defibrillator may in addition be equipped with a transmission device that sets up a radio connection with an emergency center. The emergency center is equipped with a display unit that shows the activities at the resuscitation site.

  • Patent number: 6336047
Abstract: A system for communication between sensors in training equipment and electrodes for a defibrillator (AED) or a defibrillator-trainer (AED-T) provides for determining electrode positioning and providing feedback to the user. The training equipment is provided with a non-conductive chest skin, and the communication is wireless and bi-directional. The information from the manikin is generated by a microprocessor with a digital-analog converter. The information signal is transmitted to the sensors in the manikin by use of drivers, which sensors each constitute one half of a non-galvanic coupling, in which the chest skin separates the halves, and the other halves of the non-galvanic couplings are formed by electrodes that are attached to the chest skin, the non-galvanic coupling being in the form of capacitors or coils.

  • Patent number: 6306107
Abstract: A system for measuring parameters during chest compression in a life-saving situation or a practice situation is provided, in which a pressure pad containing e.g. an accelerometer and a force activated switch (SW), as well as a calculation unit (B), is positioned on a patients chest, alternatively on or inside a manikin's chest, in order to register parameters such as depression distance, duration or rate of depressions during chest compression.

  • Patent number: 6190177
Abstract: A system for detecting an electrode position for a defibrillator on a manikin includes electrical conductive faces that are provided in hidden positions under the manikin skin in locations that correspond to correct and incorrect positions for placement of the defibrillator respectively, and which constitute the respective halves of a capacitor. The faces are connected to a first and a second oscillator respectively, which oscillators emit two different frequencies. A position indicator may be arranged inside the manikin, which indicator will give notification to the user by the use of light sources, e.g., light emitting diodes that shine through the manikin skin, or by activation of a sound signal. A signal analyzing device judges the correctness of the electrode positions via output from the oscillators.

  • Patent number: 6154673
Abstract: This invention relates to an external defibrillator whose language of operation can be easily changed when the defibrillator is deployed for use. Defibrillators include, manual defibrillators, automatic or semi-automatic external defibrillators ("AEDs") and defibrillator trainers. In one embodiment, the invention provides a way to change the language in which the defibrillator delivers instructions to a user. Defibrillators of this invention would contain multiple languages in their memory. During the set-up of the defibrillator some or all of the languages could be designated as a language in which a prompt will be offered. Additionally, during set-up, one language will be designated as the default language. Once the defibrillator is deployed for use in an emergency, the operator will indicate a language preference for the defibrillator operating instructions.

  • Patent number: 6090058
Abstract: A multiple-size cervical collar is disclosed which is formed from a stiff flexible plastic material and comprises (a) a neck encircling band comprising a front portion and a back portion and (b) a mandible support formed from such plastic material. The mandible support is vertically shiftable with respect to the neck band and lockable thereto at a discrete number of positions to match standard single-sized collars and thereby accommodate various sizes of wearers to which the collar is applied.

  • Patent number: 5950627
Abstract: A spine board having internal stiffening elements mechanically connected to an outer shell via a number of speed pins. A quantity of urethane foam fills the spaces between the stiffening elements and the shell. The speed pins permit the rotational molding of the shell about a pair of graphite reinforcing tubes, which better distributes the loads to be born among the outer shell, urethane filler, and stiffening elements, thereby increasing the life span of the board.

  • Patent number: 5672179
Abstract: An intubation device and a method of intubating a patient with an endotracheal tube is disclosed. The device comprises a housing and a flexible, tubular sheath having one end connected to the housing and a free end extending away from it. The sheath, which is adapted to fit within the endotracheal tube, also has a special light at the end of the sheath's free end for selectively providing illumination. In use, the sheath is inserted into the endotracheal tube until the light is at the end of the distal end of the tube. A clamp on the intubation device then clamps the endotracheal tube to the housing to prevent relative movement between the tube and the sheath. A tube stop is then slid along the sheath into abutting contact with the proximal end of the endotracheal tube to identify the location on the sheath corresponding to the proximal end of the tube. When the tube is properly positioned in the patient, the light will create a distinct glow visible to an observer in the area of the sternal notch.

  • Patent number: 5055052
Abstract: In a model for practicing artifical respiration by means of a mouth-to-mouth or mouth-to-nose resuscitation procedure, at least a part of the respiratory tract of the model is simulated by a plurality of successively disposed balloons which are each separably connected by their inflation connection to the closed end of the respective preceding balloon in interconnected relationship to form a continuous flat strip. The strip is wound to form a coil, with the coil being mounted rotatably in the model. In that way a plurality of such balloons are disposed in a coil and replacement of a used balloon by a fresh balloon is affected by pulling the used balloon out of the mouth or nose opening of the model and separating it from the adjoining balloon in the strip of balloons.
