Abstract: A screw-type fluid pump is provided with an elongate casing having a surface defining an internal fluid flow space and a screw within the flow path, fixed to the casing, and having a plurality of flights for continuously conveying fluid from an inlet on the casing to an outlet for appropriate disposition as the screw and casing are rotated. A conduit/torque tube extends through the screw in axially overlapping relationship with the casing over no more than one third the axial extent of the screw at the upper region of the casing. The conduit/torque tube establishes communication between a plurality of pockets between screw turns and the atmosphere to effect pressure equalization so that cavitation in the fluid flow space is prevented as the screw is operated. The conduit/torque tube also transmits the force from a rotary drive to the screw.

Abstract: A reactor for waste water including a vessel 10 having two elongated outer channels 26, 28 sandwiching an elongated inner channel 30 with all the channels 26, 28 and 30 being connected to each other at both opposed ends thereof, a gate 64 at one of the ends 18 and movable between a first position isolating the channel 26 from the channels 28 and 30 and a second position isolating the channel 28 from the channels 26 and 30, rotors 32, 34 for each of the channels 26, 28 for aerating waste water in the vessel 10 and for causing the waste water to flow in the corresponding channels 26, 28 as well as the inner channel 30, and a pair of effluent outlets 98, 100, located at the end 18 and spaced to be on opposite sides of the gate 64, each selectively operable to withdraw effluent from the the outer channels 26, 28 on the associated side of the gate 64.

Abstract: A filter compartment containing water with surface scum is bounded by first and second end walls and spaced side walls, the latter of which are spanned by a moving bridge. The bridge is movable between the ends of the compartment and has associated nozzles which direct a pressurized air or other fluid angularly against the upper surface of the scum layer to skim the scum towards at least one collecting pot, in which scum is collected, and from which the scum is withdrawn for delivery to a scum pit for further treatment or disposal.

Abstract: A waste water treatment system including a vessel having a closed loop flow path, a bottom and a wall. A clarifier is mounted on the vessel wall within the vessel and includes a clarifier wall which is elongated in the direction of the flow path and is relatively narrowly spaced from the vessel wall. A clarifier wall extends from the bottom to a location above the intended level of waste water to define a clarifying chamber that is relatively narrow. Inlets may be located along the length of the clarifier wall and the bottom wall of the clarifying chamber may be provided with sludge outlets.

Abstract: Waste water treatment apparatus including a vessel for receiving the waste water and having an inlet and an effluent outlet spaced from the inlet. The space between the two defines a flow path for the waste water and a scum outlet is also provided for the vessel. An elongated trough having an elongated opening is disposed horizontally in the vessel at an intended level of waste water therein and extends across the flow path. A movable skimmer blade extending below the intended level of waste water can be drawn along the flow path to capture scum and deliver and deposit the same in the trough through the opening thereof.

Abstract: A waste water treatment system including an oxidation vessel which receives waste water and has at least one wall and is adapted to introduce oxygen into the waste water contained therein. A clarifier is mounted on the wall at the outlet from the vessel and is narrow in comparison to the vessel. The clarifier includes generally vertical end walls and an imperforate elongated generally vertical sidewall defining upper and lower ends of the clarifier. The lower end of the clarifier is opened to provide for admission of waste water into the clarifier and an apertured plate extends along the length of the clarifier at the upper end and is hydraulically interposed between the clarifier and the vessel outlet.
