  • Publication number: 20080116906
Abstract: An arrangement for use in connection with an electricity meter includes an electricity meter housing and at least one connection between a first conductor and a second conductor carrying line voltage. The arrangement further includes a processing circuit that is configured to obtain a first voltage measurement within the meter housing on a first side of the at least one connection, and to obtain a second voltage measurement on a second side of the at least one connection. The processing circuit is further configured to determine a value corresponding to an impedance across the at least one connection.

  • Patent number: 6815942
Abstract: An electricity meter performs a self-calibration operation. According to an exemplary embodiment, the meter includes a measurement circuit for generating power information representative of measured power. A controller is operably coupled to the measurement circuit and includes an input for receiving reference standard information. The controller compares the power information generated by the measurement circuit to the reference standard information and generates a compensation signal in dependence upon the comparison. The compensation signal is used to calibrate the measurement circuit. Preferably, the meter is capable of being electrically connected to, and calibrated concurrently with at least one other meter.

  • Patent number: 6757628
Abstract: A compensator for use in connection with the metering of electricity calculates multi-level losses due to loss devices such as transformers and transmission lines. The compensator calculates losses to delivered electricity due to the presence of such loss devices and can sum losses from multiple loss devices to determine the electricity being delivered at various points, or levels, in the transmission system.

  • Patent number: 6747446
Abstract: An arrangement for providing external access to functionality switches in a utility meter includes a housing, a number of contacts, at least one button actuator, and a hatch. The housing has a base and a cover that includes at least one switch access opening. The number of contacts are disposed on a substrate that is disposed between said cover and said base. The at least one button actuator is configured to electrically connect at least two of said number of contacts such that the at least one button actuator is accessible via said at least one switch access opening. The hatch disposed on said cover and adapted to selectively provide external access to said at least one switch access opening.

  • Patent number: 6738693
Abstract: A utility meter which provides multiple concurrent registering of commodity consumption data includes a source of commodity consumption signals, a measurement circuit, and a registering circuit. The source of commodity consumption signals is coupled to provide commodity consumption signals to the measurement circuit. The measurement circuit is operable to generate commodity consumption data from the commodity consumption signals. The register circuit is operably coupled to the measurement circuit to receive the commodity consumption data therefrom. To this end, the register circuit includes a memory and a processor. The memory stores a first set of parameters corresponding to a first metering mode, and a second set of parameters corresponding to a second metering mode.

  • Patent number: 6677742
Abstract: An arrangement for use in a utility meter having a base configured to be mounted to a structure and a component module adapted to be releasably secured to the base inhibits unauthorized removal of the component module from the base. The arrangement includes a mounting fastener assembly disposed on the component module and a closure element. The mounting fastener assembly has an access opening configured to receive a mounting fastener and a mounting opening configured to allow a portion of the mounting fastener to extend therethrough and into the base. The mounting fastener includes a portion configured to be retained by the base. The closure element is pivotally attached to the component module and is movable into a first position wherein the closure element restricts the access opening and into a second position wherein the access opening is accessible.

  • Patent number: 6667692
Abstract: An electrical utility meter having harmonic data templates advantageously enables a user to determine whether equipment at a particular site is susceptible to electrical damage or interference. According to an exemplary embodiment, the meter generates measured harmonic data for a plurality of phases in the polyphase electrical system. A user may select at least one of a plurality of predetermined templates including one or more harmonic data thresholds. Each of the predetermined templates corresponds to a condition where a specific device is susceptible to electrical damage or interference. The measured harmonic data is compared with the one or more harmonic data thresholds included in the at least one selected predetermined template. An alarm is generated when the measured harmonic data exceeds the one or more harmonic data thresholds included in the at least one selected predetermined template.
