Patent number: 6080951Abstract: A method and device for improving the efficiency of mechanical transplanting, wherein seedling balls carrying no seedlings or undersize seedlings are automatically removed prior to the planting stage. Several seedling balls are simultaneously extracted from a common cultivation tray and deficient balls are detected and removed. The deficit caused by a removed seedling ball is compensated by momentarily increasing the rate of feeding balls from the tray. No separate replacement seedling supply is required.Type: GrantFiled: October 23, 1998Date of Patent: June 27, 2000Assignee: Lannen Tehtaat OyInventors: Bert Thijssen, Leo Lehto, Altti Keskilohko

Patent number: 6073564Abstract: A method and device for improving mechanical transplanting of balled seedlings involves detection of balls with deficient seedlings, such as those with no seedlings or undersized seedlings, with a sensor through an aperture in a compartment holding the ball. Deficient balls are allowed to exit from the compartment through a shutter, and replacement balls are provided from a seedling supply. The replacement seedling supply includes a cassette having one row of cells for seedlings and the cassette is advanced, as necessary, by a geared shaft engaging the side of the cassette. Alternatively, replacement seedlings are provided from a cultivating tray.Type: GrantFiled: April 21, 1998Date of Patent: June 13, 2000Assignee: Lannen Tehtaat OyInventor: Altti Keskilohko

Patent number: 4893571Abstract: This invention relates to an automatic method for planting balled seedlings grown in container trays. According to this invention, the balled seedling (7) is removed from the container by taking hold of it from the top with a fork-like gripping element (16) and transferring it into the ground. For this, a gripping prong (16) which remains in position at the gripping stage and into which the seedling is pushed is used. The seedlings can be planted without breakage or problems and in the correct position.Type: GrantFiled: July 26, 1988Date of Patent: January 16, 1990Assignee: Lannen Tehtaat OyInventors: Reijo Hakli, Leo Lehto, Esa Lehto

Patent number: 4706582Abstract: Planting device for plants, which comprises a frame tube (1), a stationary jaw (6) and a pivoting jaw (7) in contact with same, with a foot pedal (8), as well as a catch and discharge device (3), which is provided with a trigger lever (12) as well as with a spring (13). The trigger lever is in one of its extreme positions when the pivoting jaw is open, and in the other extreme position when the pivoting jaw is closed. The spring is fitted so as to lock the trigger lever--and thereby also the pivoting jaw--in any of the extreme positions.Type: GrantFiled: January 21, 1986Date of Patent: November 17, 1987Assignee: Lannen Tehtaat OyInventor: Altti K. Patent number: 4611428Abstract: Method and equipment for planting of band ball plants in which the plants are grown in a cassette consisting of a bottom part and an upper part (2). The bottom part comprises several parallel grooves. The upper part is made of paper coated with plastic, and having perforations (19) to produce a ball support network when tamped from above. The plants in a groove are separated by folds (17) of the upper part, which straighten when the bands are pulled after the incubation from the grooves.Type: GrantFiled: September 26, 1984Date of Patent: September 16, 1986Assignee: Lannen Tehtaat OyInventor: Marja H. Patent number: 4610761Abstract: A paper material has been invented that contains cellulose substituted by means of N-methylol compounds. As N-methylol compounds may be used, e.g., reaction products of urea, glyoxal, and formaldehyde, methylolated melamines, and N-methylol-acrylamide copolymers. The paper is manufactured best by impregnating paper with an aqueous solution or dispersion of a N-methylol compound and by drying it at 130.degree. to 200.degree. C. in order to produce condensation. Papers in accordance with the invention have good properties of strength against decomposition and wet strength, which properties can be adjusted readily by varying the degree of substitution or cross-linking of the cellulose. The papers are particularly well suitable, e.g., for the manufacture of plant-growing pots and corrugated fibreboard.Type: GrantFiled: December 19, 1984Date of Patent: September 9, 1986Assignee: Lannen Tehtaat OyInventors: Dan Eklund, Jukka Erkkila, Matti Ingman, Anders Lassus, Kauko Peltonen, Kari Saarinen

Patent number: 4578899Abstract: Set of growing cells (1) for the growing of plants, the said set of growing cells (1) comprising several lines of pots parallel to each other. Each of the lines of pots adjoining each other has a common wall construction (3) partly decomposing during the growing of the plants, the said wall construction consisting of three material layers laminated together. The middle portion (5) of the wall construction (3) is composed of a plastic material, such as, e.g., polyethylene or polypropylene. On both sides of the middle portion (5) of the wall construction (3), there is a thin paper layer (6) decomposing in the ground during the growing of the plants. After the stage of growing of the plants, after decomposition of the paper layers (6), the adhesive strips (4), which do not adhere to the plastic layers, i.e. to the middle portions (5), remain as plugs between the middle portions (5).Type: GrantFiled: November 16, 1983Date of Patent: April 1, 1986Assignee: Lannen Tehtaat OyInventors: Matti Katila, Jukka Erkkila

Patent number: 4530383Abstract: The present invention relates to a device for feeding a substrate into the cells of a set of growing cells placed underneath the device. The feeding device includes two horizontal feeding rolls parallel to each other. Each feeding roll includes a plurality of pin elements which project radially from the face of the rolls in an outward direction. The pins are placed in the normal planes of the axes of the feeding rolls in an alternating fashion with respect to the rolls. This arrangement allows the pins to interlock with each other in the vertical plane through which the substrate is fed. The substrate, by the effect of the circumferential velocity of the feeding rolls, is introduced into the cells so as to compact any material deposited earlier into the cells.Type: GrantFiled: December 30, 1982Date of Patent: July 23, 1985Assignee: Lannen Tehtaat OyInventors: Jouko Lehtinen, Kari Saarinen

Patent number: 4404917Abstract: Method and device for planting pot plants with a planting machine travelling on the ground so that a planting furrow is formed by means of a plough-share. The plants are fed into a planting device of the machine. The planting device grasps a plant, lowers the plant down towards the planting furrow, and lets the plant loose above the planting furrow. Thereupon, the plants having assumed a substantially vertical position in the planting furrow, the planting furrow is closed by a pair of pressing wheels. As the plant is detached from the planting device, the component of the speed of the planting device and of the plant, opposite to the direction of travel of the machine, in relation to the machine, is substantially higher than the speed of the machine in relation to the ground.Type: GrantFiled: June 15, 1981Date of Patent: September 20, 1983Assignee: Lannen Tehtaat OyInventor: Reijo S. Patent number: 4106415Abstract: The invention is an improved mechanical planting machine capable of making a furrow in the ground and planting therein plants with root clods such as so-called pot-type plants. The apparatus comprises a plowshare for forming a furrow, feeding apparatus for feeding the plants into the furrow, compressing means such as pressure wheels for compacting the soil against the roots of the plant, and an operating device for supporting the plant in the selected planting position while the soil is being compacted. The operating device is the inventive feature. It comprises two parallel circulating endless elements located above the furrow with flexible wires attached at regular intervals. The device is located above the furrow so that the wires dangle down forming two parallel wire walls that penetrate the furrow and support the plant therebetween until the soil has been compacted.Type: GrantFiled: October 7, 1976Date of Patent: August 15, 1978Assignee: Lannen Tehtaat OYInventor: Reijo Sakari Hakli
