  • Patent number: 8424371
Abstract: A method of analyzing a vehicle wheel comprising a tire of a predetermined configuration and a thixotropic balancing substance, comprising rotating the vehicle wheel with a predetermined number of revolutions for a period of time, wherein a tread surface of the tire is pressed in a first contact area against a rotatable drum with a predetermined force, and a first acceleration in the first contact area is measured with a measuring device; rotating another vehicle wheel comprising another tire of the predetermined configuration with the predetermined number of revolutions for another period of time, the other vehicle wheel being conventionally balanced and having another residual unbalance, wherein another tread surface of the other tire is pressed in a second contact area against the rotatable drum with the predetermined force, and a second acceleration in the second contact area is measured with the measuring device and if the first acceleration is less than or equal to the second acceleration, determining t

  • Publication number: 20050159534
Abstract: The invention relates to tyre balancing compositions having improved balancing properties comprise a visco-plastic gel and solid bodies having an average smallest dimension in the range of 0.5-5 mm; preferably 1-4 mm, more preferably around 3 mm. When applied in a layer to the inside of a motor vehicle tyre, the compositions act by allowing the solid bodies move through the gel and to concentrate in areas to counteract imbalances. The solid bodies preferably have an average ratio ? between their smallest and their largest dimension of ??2, more preferably ??1.5, especially around 1. The visco-plastic gel preferably has a storage modulus (G?) between 1000 Pa and 25000 Pa at 22° C., a loss modulus (G?) smaller than the storage modulus, and a critical yield stress above 3 Pa at 22° C.
