Abstract: A system comprises a personal device such as one used by law enforcement, and a housing containing a portable radar system with both a ranging resolution and lateral resolution sufficient to detect an object concealed on a person (e.g., one that operates in the THz range), where the housing is configured to be mounted in contact with the personal device such that when mounted, the combined handheld device and housing have a form factor that allows it to retain its characteristic as a personal device, and where the portable radar system is configured to, when in operation, emit a radar beam and to receive a reflection of the emitted radar beam.

Abstract: A method comprises scanning a subject with a coherent radar beam from a single chip operating in the terahertz range, and executing instructions, on a processor, to create one or more digital images based said scanning. One or more digital images are combined at the processor to form a super image, and based on the super image, the processor determines whether the subject is carrying a concealed object. If the subject is determined to be carrying a concealed object, and certain alert-generating rules are met, an alert is generated.

Abstract: An apparatus comprises a coherent radar system on a single chip configured to transmit high-frequency signals with a center frequency in a submillimeter wavelength range that corresponds to a frequency range of 0.3 THz and no greater than 0.4 THz. The radar system on the single chip (RSOC) comprises a phased array transmitter antenna configured to emit a radar beam with a center frequency of greater than 0.3 THz and no greater than 0.4 THz. The RSOC further includes a receiver configured to provide a voltage signal to a wide band receiver voltage controlled oscillator to form a phased array receiver antenna configured to receive reflected signals from the emitted radar beam.
