Abstract: A marker tag for tree trunks is provided with a flat element bearing indicia adapted to clip onto an applicator hammer. A nail extends perpendicularly through the flat element and is able to slide in a passage opening in the flat element preferably subject to the action of a clamping force and only able to be slid on application of a force. After driving the nail provided with the marker tag into a living tree trunk the trunk continues to increase in diameter and accordingly pushes the marker tag along the nail so that after a certain number of years it is stripped off and drops to the ground.

Abstract: A marking element is proposed for marking timber, especially tree trunks, having a tag-like marking element (9) with at least one fastening element (11, 12) disposed on it for fastening the marking element (10) to the timber to be marked. To provide the marking, the marking element furthermore has a transponder (14) incorporating a data storage for the wireless transmission of data. This permits the wireless storing and reading of a multitude of data without requiring visual contact.

Abstract: A indicia carrying element for marking timber and more especially logs possessing a indicia carrying body bearing such indicia and having on one side thereof clips for attachment to the head of an applicator hammer in peripheral grooves therein for prior to driving said element into timber, whereas the other side of the element is provided with spurs to be driven into the timber. The clips are arranged in spring regions like lugs in the plate-like indicia carrying body, and such regions are for instance defined by slots in the indicia carrying body. This means that such indicia carrying elements may be reliably clipped onto the standard head of an applicator hammer without there being any danger of the clips breaking off.
