  • Patent number: 5236753
Abstract: A floor mat for use in covering the floor of a motor vehicle comprises a corrugated layer having first and second opposing surfaces and a single face layer affixed to one of the surfaces of the corrugated layer so that the corrugated layer may be rolled up in a direction enclosing the face layer within the corrugated layer. Preferably, at least one tear line is provided for permitting the floor mat to be split into first and second mat portions which may be separately rolled up and removed from the vehicle after use. The first and second mat portions are each adapted to underlie a separate passenger area of the motor vehicle in order to protect the floor of the vehicle from being dirtied during use. In another embodiment, a generally trapezoidally-shaped universal floor mat is provided which can alternately be placed on the floor beneath the front driver's or front passenger's side of a vehicle.

  • Patent number: 5200094
Abstract: A method for recovery of printing ink wastes is provided which greatly minimizes pollution problems attendant to the disposal of ink wastes, while permitting formulation of usable ink products from the wastes. The method involves first creating a flowable stream of material including the ink wastes, and directing this stream to a hydroheater (16) along with incoming steam. In the hydroheater (16), the ink wastes are subjected to elevated temperatures and pressures, and intense shear, creating a homogeneous, flowable output. This output may then be dried and powdered, and the powder may be reconstituted as a black ink suitable for commercial printing operations. If desired, the hydroheater (16) output may be treated in a filter press (252) to obtain a filter cake (258), and this cake (258) may be subsequently subdivided and treated with ink carriers to form a processing ink.

  • Patent number: 5181899
Abstract: Box blank-forming apparatus (60) is provided which includes a feeder assembly (62) and a scoring/slotting assembly (64) each provided with adjustment structure (62a, 64a) to facilitate makeready adjustment of the apparatus (60) between production runs. The feeder assembly (62) preferably includes a reciprocal pusher element (170) operable to successively engage sheets (30) to be formed into box blanks (36). The element (170) is supported by a pair of elongated, threaded, axially rotatable, fore and aft translatable positioning screws (146, 148), so that upon rotation of the screws (146, 148), a reference position of the pusher element (170) may be varied. Adjustment of the assembly (64) is accomplished by means of compensators (292, 294) which are respectively coupled to associated slotter wheel and scoring wheel shafts (288, 286).

  • Patent number: 5176090
Abstract: A lightweight, completely recyclable paper pallet (10) is provided which can be produced, shipped and stored as two die cut pieces (24, 26), and which can be readily constructed without gluing to form a complete pallet (10). Preferably, the pallet (10) includes a planar main panel (12) having a pair of laterally spaced apart, side marginal, box-like underlying support sections (18, 20); a box-like central support section (22) coupled to the main panel (12) completes the construction. Interconnection of the marginal support sections (18, 20) and central support section (22) is accomplished by means of notched locking elements (106-120, 174-188) passing through strategically located slots (38-60) in main panel (12) and interfitting with upright notched reinforcing panels (70-84, 140-146) provided along the length of the supports (18, 20, 22).

  • Patent number: 5174184
Abstract: A rotatable slotter head assembly (20) of the type used in the slotting of box blanks is provided which includes mechanism (28) permitting rapid and easy alteration of the circumferential position of the cutting knives, (26) carried by the assembly (20). Preferably, the assembly (20) includes a rotatable body (24) provided with an elongated, peripheral, knife-receiving slot (68) defined by fixed backing plates (58) and laterally shiftable locking plates (86-96). A plurality of selectively inflatable resilient bladders (74-78) are carried by the head assembly (20) and, when inflated, shift the associated movable locking plates (86-96) against the cutting knives (26), thereby firmly locking the latter in place. When knives adjustment is desired, one or more of the appropriate bladders (74-78) are deflated, the knives (26) are shifted as desired, and the bladders (74-78) are reinflated.

  • Patent number: 5072507
Abstract: An improved box blank die cutting machine (20) is provided which includes die changeover apparatus (32) permitting the machine die structure (28) to be rapidly changed without the necessity for completely removing the die frame (26) from the machine (20). The changeover apparatus (32) includes die-supporting elements (156, 158) designed to support the die frame (26) as it is shifted rearwardly towards the output end (46) of the machine (20). Moreover, the elements (158) include selectively extensible pins (184a, 184b) which are received within corresponding die frame apertures (108, 110), so that the die frame (26) may be pivoted to an upright die changeover position. Limit stops (188, 190) are also provided for limiting the pivoting movement of the die frame (26), and for stabilizing the die frame (26) in its upright position.

  • Patent number: 5058744
Abstract: An improved synthetic resin dunnage element (10) for use in packaging and shipping of fluorescent tubes (76,78) is provided which is specifically designed to be of minimum fore and aft length while still providing maximum protection against tube breakage. The support (10) is of integral, thermoformed construction and advantageously includes alternating upwarding and downwardly opening and diverging wall sections (68,70,70a) with the fowardmost downwardly opening section (70a) being of lesser width, greater radius and vertically lower in position than the associated rearward sections (70). In this fashion the forwardmost sections (79a) engage the fluorescent tube end caps (82) whereas the sections 70 engage the glass tube body. Provision of such specialized, different downwardly opening wall sections (70,70a) allows the support (10) to be manufactured using substantially less starting sheet material as compared with prior supports.

  • Patent number: 5016751
Abstract: Fluorescent tube-supporting dunnage elements (10) are provided which are designed to ensure easy machine-dispensibility thereof by preventing complete nesting of a stack of interfitted supports (10). The supports (10) are integral, thermo-formed bodies presently a plurality of elongated, open-top, juxtaposed tube-receiving recesses (24) each presenting alternating, upwardly and downwardly opening and diverging wall sections (52,54) interconnected by short upright walls (56). The walls (56) are provided with outwardly extending, upwardly opening arcuate ridges (58) which prevent complete nesting of stacked supports (10).

  • Patent number: 4936453
Abstract: An improved synthetic resin support for fluorescent tubes is provided which uses a minimum of synthetic resin material in the manufacture thereof, while at the same time giving entirely adequate support and protection against breakage of packed fluorescent tubes. The supports of the invention are in the form of an integral preformed synthetic resin body presenting a plurality of elongated, fore and aft extending, open-top tube-receiving concave regions together with top wall sections between the respective tube-receiving concavities formed in a sawtooth configuration to provide additional support against crushing and tube breakage. The preferred supports in accordance with the invention are also provided with specially configured upwardly and downwardly diverging, alternating wall sections along the length of the concavities thereof for simultaneous supporting upper and lower fluorescent tubes within a carton.

  • Patent number: 4792045
Abstract: Molded synthetic resin dunnage supports for packing of elongated fragile fluorescent tubes are provided which are designed for automated dispensing during packaging and give protection against tube breakage at least equivalent to that of conventional molded pulp supports. In preferred forms, the dunnage support is formed from polyvinyl chloride sheet material (0.014 inch thickness) and includes plural juxtaposed tube-receiving sockets together with a rear side lip and front side ledge platforms; the lip carries laterally spaced upright nibs which, in conjunction with the ledge platforms, prevent complete nesting of the supports, so that an interfitted support stack presents substantially even access spaces between individual supports for easy machine dispensing.
