  • Patent number: 11545028
Abstract: Dual channel wireless communication system for monitoring and/or control of a machine (112), such as a press brake, by a remote interface device (10, 12) that communicates data with a machine controller (18) over two channels CH1, CH2 in parallel. Also, a system and method to determine whether a remote interface device (10, 12) is within a range or zone of a machine (112) that the remote interface device wirelessly monitors and/or controls, uses an ultrasound transmitter-receiver arrangement (100, 102) and an electromagnetic (EM) transmitter-receiver arrangement (104, 106, 108, 110) to determine difference in ultrasound and EM time of flight and therefore whether or not the remote interface device is permitted to monitor and/or control the machine or is within range to monitor and/or control the machine.

  • Patent number: 9557007
Abstract: An imaging system, safety system or combined imaging and safety system includes a light transmitter and a corresponding receiver. Image data relating to a machine tool and/or workpiece is derived and processed to determine information regarding the tool and/or tool position and/or extent of work carried out on the workpiece. A screen, such as a shadow screen, can be used to form an image of a profile of the tool tip and end of the workpiece. Tool tip position and extent of work on the workpiece can be derived from the image. Certain aspects are directed to a safety system application for halting a machine or tool when a light beam is interrupted, and can provide progressive muting of beam interruption detection, such as by systematically disregarding or muting signals from rows of receiver array elements as the beam passes through a mute point ahead of a tool.

  • Patent number: 8692877
Abstract: An imaging system (40), safety system (58) or combined imaging and safety system (FIG. 1) for an industrial machine (20), including a light transmitter (26) and a corresponding receiver (28). In an imaging application, image data relating to a machine tool (22) and/or work piece (32) is derived from said at least one receiver and processed by an image processing means to determine information regarding said tool and/or tool position and/or extent of work carried out on said work piece. A screen (34, 46), such as a shadow screen, can be used to form an image of a profile of the tool tip and end of the workpiece. Took tip position and extent of work on the workpiece can be derived from the image, e.g., via a camera viewing an image formed on the screen. Multiple cameras may be used. A safety system application (FIGS.

  • Publication number: 20060006315
Abstract: A method of operating a safety system for an industrial press having a moveable section and a stationary section, the safety system providing a plurality of continuous planar laser beams having a generally constant lateral width, each laser beam being spaced at varying distances from the moveable section, the method including moving the moveable section towards the stationary section at a relatively high speed; starting deceleration of the moveable section when one said laser beam reaches a speed control point located immediately adjacent the stationary section, moving the moveable section at a final crawl speed when a second said laser beam reaches the speed control point, the moveable section continuing to move at said final crawl speed towards said stationary section.

  • Patent number: 6903327
Abstract: A safety system for an industrial press having a moveable section (30), the safety means including: a laser emitting means (1) for emitting a continuous planar laser beam (9) having a generally constant lateral width; a light receiving means (22) for receiving the laser beam and for detecting when an object intersects the laser beam; and a control means for stopping or preventing movement of the moveable section of the press when the receiving means detects that the laser beam has intersected an object.
