Patent number: 11130330Abstract: The multiple printing plate mounting system of the present disclosure may be used to mount multiple flexible printing plates simultaneously onto a printing sleeve. The system has a back rotary vacuum plate with a plurality of distinct vacuum zones and may be controlled via valve by a computer control system. A filler plate may also be controlled with the same vacuum patterns. The filler plate will move minutely side-to-side. A front plate with match-controlled vacuum patterns may also have a servo to control front-to-back-movement. The distinct vacuum zones are used together with the movable front, back, and filler vacuum plates to selectively, individually, and independently align the flexible printing plates prior to mounting.Type: GrantFiled: May 3, 2019Date of Patent: September 28, 2021Assignee: LEADER ENGINEERING-FABRICATION, INC.Inventors: Charles B. Leader, Jr., James R. Eddy, James P. Lammers

Patent number: 10493743Abstract: An automatic applicator of a sticky back material to a printing sleeve is disclosed. The applicator includes a controller that is programmable with data relating to the size and desired positioning of the sticky back material to the sleeve. The sticky back material is secured to a transport system and cut to the desired size by a cutter, creating a sheet. The sheet is then transported between a pressure roller and the sleeve. The pressure roller applies pressure to the sticky back sheet, applying the sheet to the sleeve. A mandrel grips and rotates the sleeve to apply the sticky back sheet around an exterior surface of the sleeve.Type: GrantFiled: May 26, 2017Date of Patent: December 3, 2019Assignee: Leader Engineering-Fabrication, Inc.Inventors: Charles B. Leader, Michael J. Manzella, Rusty L. Schaffner

Patent number: 9399339Abstract: A method and apparatus for mounting a printing plate onto a printing cylinder, wherein the printing plate includes a first registration mark and a second registration mark centrally located along opposing edges thereof. The apparatus includes an optical system to transmit images of the registration marks to a user interface, wherein a user selects a desired location point location of each of the registration marks displayed on the user interface to facilitate an alignment of the printing plate in respect of a central axis of the printing cylinder.Type: GrantFiled: February 19, 2016Date of Patent: July 26, 2016Assignee: LEADER ENGINEERING-FABRICATION, INC.Inventors: Charles Burleigh Leader, Jr., James R. Eddy, Michael J. Manzella, David L. Casler

Patent number: 5887523Abstract: An apparatus for mounting flexible printing plates on a printing cylinder includes a base rotatably supporting a printing cylinder in a predetermined position and support having a turntable for supporting a flexible printing plate having a reference point thereon and a front plate support mounted adjacent the front of the turntable. Means for selectively moving front plate support and an associated pressure roll toward and away from the turntable to facilitate the application of the flexible printing plate onto the printing cylinder in a predetermined position.Type: GrantFiled: October 20, 1998Date of Patent: March 30, 1999Assignee: Leader Engineering-Fabrication, Inc.Inventors: Charles B. Patent number: 5132911Abstract: An apparatus for mounting flexible printing plates on a printing cylinder includes a base rotatably supporting a printing cylinder in a predetermined position and an adjacent support table having a surface for supporting a flexible printing plate having a reference point thereon. Actuators move the support table along three orthogonal axes one of which is parallel to the longitudinal axis of the printing cylinder. The position of the reference point is sensed by a video camera and feedback signals representing the positions of the camera and the table with respect to the three axes are inputs to a computer. The computer determines the positional relationship between the reference point on the printing plate and the predetermined position of the printing cylinder and moves the support table to position the printing plate at a desired position for mounting on the printing cylinder.Type: GrantFiled: December 27, 1989Date of Patent: July 21, 1992Assignee: Leader Engineering Fabrication, Inc.Inventors: Charles B.
