  • Patent number: 5695340
Abstract: A dental restoration system includes a plurality of proximal inlays of differing sizes for selection by a dentist to fit a prepared tooth cavity. In addition, a plurality of occlusal inlays is provided for covering the prepared tooth cavity and abutting the proximal inlays. In combination therewith, a curable restorative resin is provided for securing the proximal inlay in a blocking relationship with the end of a prepared tooth cavity and for securing the occlusal inlay to a bottom of the prepared tooth cavity and to the proximal inlay. The method of the present invention provides for forming a prepared tooth cavity and the utilization of curable restorative resins for providing modular-occlusal-distal (MOD) or modular-occlusal (MO) dental restorations using a modular preformed proximal and occlusal inlays to provide the usual appearance of an original natural tooth.

  • Patent number: 4220582
Abstract: Dental restorative compositions of improved X-ray opacity are described. These compositions comprise from 30% to 85% by weight of the composition of a finely divided inorganic filler and from 15% to 70% by weight of the composition of a liquid resin binder. The filler comprises at least 60% by weight of the filler of a ground barium glass that has a barium oxide (BaO) content greater than about 22.5% by weight of the glass. By appropriate selection of the binder, the composition may cure in a single stage of curing, or it may set in two stages, to provide a period of time during which it can be carved to a desired shape.

  • Patent number: 4172323
Abstract: The adhesive bonding of a pontic tooth to the two adjacent, natural abutment teeth is improved, particularly in resistance to shearing forces, by an improved adhesive bonding system. In this system, adhesive is applied to the previously prepared surfaces of the abutment teeth, and a thin screen or perforated film or foil is embedded in the adhesive on each tooth surface, conformed to the shape of the prepared surface, and penetrated by the adhesive. In one preferred embodiment, the adhesive wets and penetrates the surface of the artificial pontic that is being secured in place, the previously prepared abutment tooth surfaces, and the screens or films or foils, so that upon curing, an integral mass results that is mechanically strong, particularly in resistance to shear. The system is useful with natural or artificial teeth, can be used to install fixed bridges, and is useful for splinting.
