  • Patent number: 4771495
Abstract: A bedding mattress including a spring assembly, the length of which is divided into three zones, the center zone of which includes rows of springs, each row of which is formed from a single continuous length of wire and contains a plurality of coils interconnected alternately in the top and bottom planes of the spring assembly to springs of the same row. The end zones include rows of coils, each coil of which is independent of the adjacent coil and is formed of a single length of wire knotted at the ends to form a knotted end turn or revolution. The rows of coils in all zones are interconnected by helical lacing wires, and the rows of the center zone, which are located adjacent the rows of the end zones, are also interconnected by helical lacing wires. Three border wires surround and are connected to the edgemost springs of the assembly by helical lacing wires.

  • Patent number: 4771494
Abstract: A spring assembly for mattresses, innersprings, and the like. The assembly comprises rows of coils, each row comprising a continuous length of wire formed into a plurality of coils interconnected by Z-shaped wire segments alternately disposed at the top and bottom of the coils. Adjacent rows of coils are connected by helical wire wound through overlapping sections of the Z-shaped wire segments. The overlapping connected sections are straight, flat offset sections located on opposite sides of each coil with the center of each overlapped section being located in a common diametral plane of the coil so that complete compression of the coil does not result in the coil being pulled laterally, twisted and distorted.

  • Patent number: 4726106
Abstract: A single continuous length of wire is formed into a continuous length spiral or helix, which is subsequently placed onto a moving chain conveyor having pins upstanding therefrom. The helix then is folded into a wave configuration for establishing a row of parallel coils by folding the links so as to move further apart a pair of adjacent pins of adjacent links while simultaneously moving closer together other pins on the same adjacent links. Thereby, the individual spring coils are arranged in generally parallel alignment one with the other within the row. Each coil in the row is thereby connected at its opposite ends to adjacent coils by three-dimensional looped connector segments.

  • Patent number: 4705079
Abstract: The coil spring assembly method comprises forming a series of coil spring rows, each row being formed from a single continuous length of spring wire. Each intermediate spring within a row has an adjacent coil spring on one side directly connected at one end of that intermediate spring, and an adjacent coil spring on the other side directly connected at the other end of that coil spring, through use of connector sections that are part of the single continuous length of spring wire used to form that row. The pre-formed rows thereafter are connected in matrix form. After the rows have been connected in matrix configuration, the connector sections are selectively cut between adjacent springs on both sides of each intermediate spring. This results in a coil spring product having individual or separate coil springs not directly connected one with the other in which each such coil spring's end loops terminate in free ends, i.e.

  • Patent number: 4700558
Abstract: A coil-forming apparatus includes three pinch wheels spaced about the periphery of an idler roller rotatably mounted to a platen. Wire is fed through the platen between the pinch wheels and idler roller where the wire is held in place. Rotation of the platen relative to the idler roller imparts a longitudinal twist to the wire, and the pinch wheels drivingly engage the twisted wire with a controlled gripping force and form it into coils against a tapered, forward surface of the idler roller. The coiled wire is then advanced outwardly from the idler roller to a mandrel having an axially adjustable pitch setting roller which engages the coil at a predetermined location from the idler roller to set the wire with the desired pitch.
