  • Patent number: 7415941
Abstract: An apparatus for feeding and providing water to animals, such as cows or goats, comprises a framework having a central axis. A plurality of reservoirs are connected to a framework in its upper aspects and feeding troughs are disposed below the reservoirs. At least one metering device for metering feed or drink or both to the feeding troughs is provided between the reservoirs and feeding troughs. Each feeding trough has a sensor for identifying an animal feeding at the feeding trough. The metering device which delivers feed or water or both to the feeding trough is controlled by a computer memory to deliver selected fodder from the reservoirs to each feeding trough in accordance for the nutritional needs of the animal which is at said trough. The control of the fodder relates both to the speed that the animal is eating and to data stored in the memory as to the nutrition needs of that animal.

  • Patent number: 7370606
Abstract: A management system for domesticated animals, such as cows, which comprises an animal identification system, a central unit provided with a computer which has a memory. The memory contains for each animal of the herd data which relates to the animal's position or status in the hierarchic order of the herd. The memory also contains data for each animal relating to its jostling behavior. This management is used in an automated system wherein procedures such as feeding and milking are performed on animals of the herd. The position or status of each animal in the hierarchic order of the herd is determined and the data thereof are stored in the memory. At least one of the procedures affecting each animal in the herd is governed, at least in part, by data in the memory relating to the animal's status or position in the hierarchic order of the herd and also by data concerning the animal's jostling behavior.

  • Patent number: 7353772
Abstract: A structure for feeding and watering animals, such as cows, goats or lamas which is provided with feeding troughs and comprises an imaginary vertical axis around which the feeding troughs are disposed at a fixed distance therefrom. The individual feeding troughs are overlapping whereby every other one is at a height above the two adjacent feeding troughs. The animals are able to position themselves side by side around the structure and to feed at the feeding troughs so that they are almost touching each other. The feeding troughs are substantially identical to each other and partitions are provided between adjacent feeding troughs so that the animals will not impede adjacent animals eating at an adjacent feeding trough or be able to eat fodder from an adjacent feeding trough. The number of feeding troughs in the disclosed structure is fourteen.

  • Patent number: 7051674
Abstract: A feed metering device for distributing feed, that is fodder or drink, or both, in metered portions to an animal. The device comprises a feed unit for receiving and containing said feed which includes an entrance opening and receives said feed from a feed supplying device. The amount of feed provided by the feed supplying device to the feed unit is governed by data from an animal identification device which identifies the animal that will consume feed in the feed unit and a weighing device that determines the amount of feed remaining from the last feeding in the feed unit. Deterring devices include animal deterring means which may be a loudspeaker produce an animal frightening sound or a light producing element comprising an animal frightening light. Also a safety bracket is provided for the feed unit to prevent injury to the feed unit in the event that an animal feeding therefrom pushes the feed unit downwardly with force or the like.

  • Patent number: 7032682
Abstract: An unmanned vehicle for displacing manure in a stable or field which comprises a steering unit for steering the vehicle and a frame. Two wheels and a manure displacing blade which depend from the frame provide the entire support for the vehicle, the vehicle's center of gravity being in an axis which falls between the wheels and the blade. A freely turnable circular bumper is also carried by the frame and prevents the vehicle from colliding with obstacles in the area wherein it operates. The vehicle also includes orientation and steering components as well as sensors for controlling the course of travel of the vehicle within the area and, such as the circular bumper, to prevent it from colliding with obstacles in the area.

  • Patent number: 6598560
Abstract: This invention relates to an Apparatus for milking animals, such as cows, and comprising a milking machine with teat cups and sensors which govern the milking process, examine the milk obtained and the physical condition of the animal being milked. The apparatus also includes a processing unit such as a computer for processing signals received from the sensors. The signals from the sensors are wirelessly transmitted via a transmitter to the processing unit. The sensors may be incorporated in each teat cup or only one teat cup. Energy for the sensors is generated by movements of magnets in coils, which are incorporated in each teat cup or in at least one of the feed cups, the movements of the magnets being provided by vacuum pulsations on each teat cup or one of the teat cups, or from another energy sources such as solar cells.

  • Publication number: 20020124810
Abstract: A method and apparatus for cooling an animal in a place such as a milking stall or feeding stall wherein an artificial climate is created. The artificial climate disclosed comprises wetting the animal with a water vapor and causing an air flow over the wetted area of the animal. Water vapor is sprayed and rubbed onto the back of the animal while shields protect areas to remain dry. During the process the animal is monitored for signs of thermal stress using a variety of methods and the wetting and cooling process are discontinued if the artificial climate adversely affects the animal.

  • Publication number: 20020124539
Abstract: An agricultural machine having drivable members for working the soil or crop or both. Either the agricultural machine or a tractor connected therewith has a storage medium which may be a computer memory in which a desired relationship between the rpm of the working member and the driving velocity of the agricultural machine is stored. The agricultural machine includes a governor or control mechanism for regulating, on the basis of the relationship stored in the storage medium, the rpm of the working member in dependence on the agricultural machine's velocity. In this manner, the optimum rpm for the driven working member can be set for any driving velocity of the machine to maximize the results obtained by the working member in improved soil or crop conditions or both.

Abstract: A device for wrapping bales of agricultural produce such as bales of hay, straw or green crop with a film. The bales are completely wrapped with the film and are marked to set forth the quality of the bale as silage and with further information. The information may include the amount of film used to wrap the bale and thus the number of wrapping layers, and the name of the person responsible for wrapping the bale. Electronic devices may be applied to the wrapping film for ascertaining the location of the bale after it has been wrapped by GPS or DGPS. The information can be imprinted directly on the film used for wrapping the bale or on labels applied to the film.

  • Publication number: 20010054393
Abstract: An implement for successively receiving and/or treating individual animals out of a group of animals which are allowed to move about freely in an area intended therefor and which are allowed individually to visit the implement, such as for example a concentrate feeding station and/or a milking robot, is provided with means for stimulating the animals to visit the implement. The implement is further provided with means for recording and/or determining a (possibly periodically recurring) time interval in which the expected visiting frequency of the group of animals to the implement is below a low threshold value, respectively above a high threshold value, and with means for extra stimulation, respectively less stimulation of the animals to visit the implement. By purposeful extra or less stimulation of the animals to visit the implement, there can be achieved a less varying visiting frequency in the course of time.
