  • Publication number: 20060261067
Abstract: A cylindrical molded plastic container is adapted to receive a snap-on snap-ring which acts as a transition structure between the container sidewall and a suitably configured closure. The snap-ring does not require sonic or friction welding and thus reduces manufacturing costs in the production of the container. The container may be used to ship and store paint or other ingredients.

  • Patent number: 6688483
Abstract: A molded plastic container and closure is provided with a double lock, the top lock being formed by the container rim and a protrusion on the inside of the closure channel. The bottom lock is formed by a segmented flange on the container sidewall and a second annular protrusion on the inside of the closure skirt. A zig-zag tear line allows the second lock to be removed thereby to create alternating areas of greater and lesser clearance between the newly formed skirt edge and a second, lower flange on the container sidewall.

  • Patent number: 6588618
Abstract: An injection molded polyethylene paint can comprising the combination of a straight sided plastic container having a snap ring structure spin-welded to the upper peripheral edge thereof and a snap-on lid. The snap ring structure is of the reentrant design and provides an annular locking structure radially interior of a large volume depression. A snap-on lid has legs which fit over the annular structure and sealingly engage inward and outward exterior surfaces thereof. The lid further comprises a pry ring which lies within the large annular depression of the reentrant portion of the snap ring. A brush wiper ring may be provided integrally with the snap ring. All components are nestable and stackable; the containers are stackable with and without the snap ring.

  • Patent number: 5875913
Abstract: A molded plastic pail and a snap-on closure having a flared skirt the bottom of which is manually engaged for removal purposes. A peripheral ring structure integral with the pail sidewall immediately underlies the skirt of the closure when in the sealing relationship with the pail thereby to block access to the skirt. However, a section of the rib structure essentially midway between the bail ears includes a break away panel connected to the rib structure by frangible webs and a living hinge so that it may be pivoted outwardly and downwardly away from the pail wall to afford access to a sufficient portion of the closure skirt to permit removal. The break away section thereafter serves as an integral handle to facilitate pouring from the container.

  • Patent number: 5799813
Abstract: A removable plug for use in combination with a planar closure having an aperture formed therein. The plug body is of shallow cylindrical configuration and has a top flange which is partially subdivided into inner and outer ring portions by a combination of weak frangible links and strong non-frangible links. A tab integral with the outer ring portion overlies a ledge ring on the closure body to facilitate initialization of the removal process. Location of the pull ring around the maximum diameter of the top flange maximizes leverage and provides a large ring capable of accommodating several fingers of one's hand.

  • Patent number: 5398843
Abstract: A molded plastic lid of the drink-through type for use in connection with a conventional beverage cup. The lid exhibits a cup-engaging rim and, radially inwardly thereof, a raised crown portion having a side wall and a top. The top is generally flat but has formed therein a centrally located recess, the floor of which extends laterally to the side walls and which is at all times above the maximum fill line of the cup during normal operation. The recess exhibits a structure which may be depressed into a stable inverted condition which provides an enlarged drink-through aperture immediately adjacent the side wall.

  • Patent number: 4785931
Abstract: A closure for use with a beverage container, the closure having a plurality of compartments formed therein to store quantities of a flavoring agent separately from a mixing fluid (such as water) contained in the container. The compartments are operable by simple finger pressure to release their contents into the container one at a time for the purpose of making a flavored beverage. Support ribs are formed on the closure to allow the stacking of a number of closures or closure/container combinations without inadvertently releasing the flavoring agent from the compartments.

  • Patent number: 4711364
Abstract: A two-level tamper-evident system for molded plastic container closure combinations. The closure is of the type which has an inexpandable peripheral skirt which snaps over and locks onto the container lip and which must be broken at several fracture points before it can be removed. In addition a tear strip acts as a removable barrier to the fracture points. As such, it must be received before the closure can be removed.

  • Patent number: 4676732
Abstract: A bucket-shaped container having a rim opening smaller than the diameter of the side wall thereof is injected molded from thermoplastic material using a die set including a molding core which collapses to allow axial removal of the molded container from the mold. The molding core comprises a plurality of individual, wedge-shaped outer core sections which collectively form a continuous molding surface and are slideably mounted on a tapered inner core to allow axial sliding movement of the outer core section relative to the inner core. The sliding movement of the outer core sections on the inner core is provided by a plurality of keylocks which are fixedly secured in corresponding axial keyways in the inner core and which slideably engage corresponding axial keyways in the outer core sections.

The molding core comprises a plurality of individual, wedge shaped outer core sections which collectively form a continuous molding surface and are slidably mounted on a tapered inner core to allow axial sliding movement of the outer core sections relative to the inner core. Each of the outer core sections is also mounted for radial sliding movement on a mounting plate which circumscribes the molding core and is mounted for reciprocating axial movement relative to the inner core. Reciprocation of the mounting plate produces simultaneous axial and radial movement of the outer core sections throughout their entire lengths between an expanded molding position and a collapsed container releasing position.

  • Patent number: 4349119
Abstract: A resealable, cylindrical plastic container assembly formed from high density thermoplastic includes a rim and lid interlock construction which provides an improved rim-to-lid seal. The container includes a plurality of circumferential and longitudinal reinforcement ribs adjacent the rim which are inset into the container sidewalls so as to avoid protuberances therefrom. A connecting flange above the reinforcement ribs supports the rim and provides a firm surface for supporting a pry tool used to remove the lid from the container. The rim comprises an exterior sealing bead and an interior locking lip connected by a substantially flat, inclined sealing surface. The lid is provided with interior and exterior locking portions defining a channel which grips and conformingly engages the rim to provide a fluid tight seal between the bead and locking lip of the container.
