  • Patent number: 8729758
Abstract: A bearing-free engine includes a bearing and drive stator having a magnetic stator plane and a magnetic rotor having a magnetic rotor plane and supported magnetically in contact free manner within the stator. The axial height of the rotor is smaller than or equal to a half diameter of the rotor. The rotor is stabilized passively by reluctance forces against axial displacement and tilting. A first sensor signal from a first measurement zone of the rotor is evaluated by a first sensor and a second sensor signal from a second measurement zone of the rotor is evaluated by a second sensor. To determine the tilting of the rotor, at least 50% of the first sensor signal from the first measurement zone is generated from a first control measurement zone which is a part of the first measurement zone disposed either below or above the magnetic rotor plane.
