  • Patent number: 4632007
Abstract: The invention relates to a page-turning device for turning over the pages of periodicals, newspapers etc., mainly for handicapped persons, as well as for turning over the pages of music note, which has a stand and actuating mechanism provided suitably with bobbin. The problem is solved according to the invention with a cord with releasable fastening fixed at least in one point suitably along the side-edge of pages arranged on stand, which cord led through eyelets formed on the side of the folding line in the direction of page-turning is interconnected with an actuating mechanism. The most important advantage of the solution according to the invention is found in that--in addition to its simple construction--it can be used even by patients suffering from serious locomotor disease with the aid of stand mounted on hospital bed and with actuating mechanism operated by nod of the head in extreme cases. Otherwise a time switch or any other control unit can be used for operation.

  • Patent number: 4602716
Abstract: A process for determining the soundness, and the soundness-dependent germinative ability of sowing seeds is based on detecting the characteristic difference between the acoustic excitation response functions of right and damaged seeds. The seeds are excited by their impinging on a hard surface and produce an acoustic signal and by examining the response functions a comparison is performed to decide whether the seeds are right or damaged. Apparatus for carrying out the process includes a feed tank (1), a seed feeding mechanism, a sensing chamber (4) and a vibration sensor (5) for detecting acoustic signals within the chamber (4), the output of the vibration sensor (5) being connected to a signal processing unit (6).

  • Patent number: 4598923
Abstract: A portable bicycle has an elongated first part carrying the handlebars and front-wheel fork at its forward end which can fold into the first part and concealed by swinging a second part down from its upright position and a third part forwardly and upwardly. The second part carries the seat and the third part carries the rear wheel. The second and third parts are hinged to the rear end of the first part and the three parts when folded together constitute a case of rectangular parallelopipedal configuration.

  • Patent number: 4401015
Abstract: The invention relates to an apparatus for the production of irregularly trimmed waffle, mainly cheese waffle from batter which has preferably been made as follows: eggs are mixed with milk, melted cheese and flavoring additives to a homogeneous mixture. Then flour and melted fats are added to the mixture with continuous mixing and finally liquid is added until it is diluted to the required consistency. Portions are taken from the resulting batter to be baked between baking plates which form only the sides of the waffle and leave the edges free. The apparatus has baking irons consisting of heatable and closable pairs of baking plates. The baking plates (2a, 2b) of the baking irons (2) have a functional surface forming the sides of the waffle but leaving its edges free. A device (50, 51) for forwarding the baking irons (2) on an endless path, to which device the lower baking plates (2b) of the baking irons (2) are fixed.

  • Patent number: 4138712
Abstract: A method for production of high storage capacity elements for electrolytic capacitors, comprising the steps of producing unetched metal filaments, oxidizing the filaments at a forming voltage so as to coat them with an oxide layer. To obtain high specific storage capacity, the radius of the metal filament (r.sub.1) is determined in accordance with the maximum operating voltage (U) and the maximum field strength (E.sub.m) of the dielectric so that the radius r.sub.1 lies within the range of ##EQU1## In an arrangement of the electrolytic capacitor with capacity elements made by this method, to reduce the unproductive volume, a plurality of capacitor elements are electrically connected in parallel while the oxide layers on adjacent capacitor elements are close to one another.

  • Patent number: 4093689
Abstract: A process for producing reinforced concrete building units such as concrete floor panels having coffer-like inner holes with smooth upper and lower surfaces, comprises providing a layer of reinforced concrete on the lower edges of a building unit comprised by an upper panel and joining ribs intersecting each other. A reinforcing steel mat is secured to the lower edges of the ribs which is then immersed in a layer of concrete resting on a plate. The assembly is vibrated to consolidate the concrete around the mat and after hardening, the plate is removed, leaving a smooth undersurface on the resulting hollow construction. The panel can be prestressed to a downwardly convex shape, in which case the plate is given a corresponding upwardly concave curvature.

  • Patent number: 4056703
Abstract: Elongated electrically-conductive workpieces such as bars, strips and wire, are resistance heated by passing an electric current through a length of the workpiece between a pair of spaced contacts. The contacts are electrically-conductive molten metal or molten salt, the molten material being continuously circulated to move it toward and into contact with the workpiece, so that it is not necessary to bend the workpiece to immerse it in a bath of molten material. The molten material is moved against the workpiece to form an extending portion of the molten material as a contact, by projecting it as a jet, pouring it as a stream, or causing it to flow over a subjacent supporting surface.

  • Patent number: 3996038
Abstract: A cellulosic starting material, substantially devoid of nitrogen values is moistened to bring its water content to at least 50%, pasteurized by steam treatment during which the temperature is increased to a maximum of about 70.degree. C and maintained at such temperature for about 12 hours during which time a relative humidity of about 100% is likewise maintained whereby the starting material is digested. The material is cooled to about 55.degree. C to proliferate thermophilic metabolite producing microorganisms. This temperature is maintained for about 36 hours and is then lowered to about 40.degree.-45.degree. C and maintained at that level for about 24 hours whereby another group of microorganisms is proliferated. The substrate so produced is cooled to 25.degree. C or less. The process provides the substrate with metabolites that protect it against microorganisms which compete for substrate carbon sources with the macrofungi to be cultivated on the substrate.

  • Patent number: 3969207
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the cyclic electrochemical processing of pickle waste liquors containing a maximum 100 g. of sulfuric acid and a minimum of 25 g. of iron ions per liter, combined with the pickling of iron. According to the invention the ammonium, magnesium or alkali-metal sulfate concentration of the waste liquor is adjusted to 0.5-1.0 mol./l. by introducing an appropriate salt, and the acid content of the waste liquor is reduced to a value not exceeding 100 g. of sulfuric acid/liter, then the waste liquir is fed into and passed through the cathode chambers of an electrolysis apparatus consisting of a series of dual electrolytic cells with diaphragms, whereupon the iron content of the waste liquor is reduced to a value of 7-15 g. of Fe.sup.2.sup.+ /liter, thereafter the waste liquor is fed into and passed through the anode chambers of said electrolysis equipment in parallel with the cathode flow, and a current density of 15-22 A/dm.sup.2.
