  • Patent number: 5314386
Abstract: A drive device (140) for the rotatable shaft (44) of a mill (10) is disclosed including first and second, diametrically opposed carriers (142). In each of the carriers (142), the ends of first and second bearing plates (152, 154) and of a motor plate (176) extend through parallel slots (148-150) formed in parallel, first and second housing plates (144) and are secured to adjustment plates (164) located outside of and slideable on the housing plates (144). Screw mechanisms (168) extend between and adjustably relate the housing and adjustment plates (144, 164) to provide relative sliding therebetween. A jack shaft (156) rotatably mounted by first and second bearings (158, 160) carried by the bearing plates (152, 154) includes a sheave (162) located intermediate the bearing plates (152, 154). A motor (180) is mounted to the motor plate (176) and has an output shaft (182) coupled to an end of the jack shaft (156) to avoid overhung loads to the motor (180).

  • Patent number: 5205500
Abstract: A mill (10) according to the preferred teachings for grinding garbage is disclosed including an octagonal shaped grinding chamber (26) formed by side plates (14-17) interconnected to have a square cross section with its corners closed by corner plates (20-23). Planar shelves (32, 34, 36) having centrally located apertures (38) divide the grinding chamber (26). Grinding rotors (48-50) are rotatably fixed to a rotatable shaft (44) and are located complementary to, parallel, and above the shelves (32, 34, 36). The grinding rotors (48-50) include planar arms (64) which radially extend from and are circumferentially spaced on a planar disc (54) fixed to the shaft (44). An impeller rotor (51) is also rotatably fixed to the shaft (44) below the grinding rotors (48-50) and includes angle iron arms (76) which radially extend from and are circumferentially spaced on a planar disc (54) fixed to the shaft (44).

  • Patent number: 5188500
Abstract: A device (10) for continuously tearing bags containing material such as refuse is disclosed including elongated, flexible flails (14) secured to a rotatable rotor (12). The flails (14) are formed in the preferred form from steel wire rope cables (28) having their free ends captured within thick wall tubing (34) swedged thereon. In addition to keeping the ends from fraying, the tubing (34) acts as a centrifugal weight and hammer for the cable (28). The rotor (12) is formed of L-shaped plates (16) attached together to extend quadrantly from and form a square tubular beam surrounding the axis of rotor (12). The flails (14) extend through apertures (36) formed in the leg portions of the plates (16) defining the square tubular beam and are secured to the leg (18) of the plates (16) spaced from the square tubular beam by cable clamps (38) having U-shaped bolts (40) extending through apertures (50) formed in the legs (18).
