Abstract: A soft tissue biopsy device including, an elongated handle including a gripping member, an elongated flexible shaft mechanically comprising a hollow distal sampling portion with an internal lumen and a distal opening facing a soft tissue, a driving unit configured to rotate the sampling portion with a speed in a range of 100 rounds-per-minute (RPM) to 10,000 RPM while the sampling portion axially advances into said soft tissue.

Abstract: A biopsy assembly, including: a biopsy tube defining a lumen; a tissue penetrator having a distal tip shaped to penetrate through tissue, wherein the tissue penetrator is positioned within the lumen and comprising: an elongated flexible body shaped and sized to move within the biopsy tube lumen; a collapsible distal cutting portion coupled to the body and extending out from the lumen in an expanded state, and configured to collapse to a width smaller than an inner width of the lumen in a collapsed state, wherein the collapsible distal cutting portion comprises a distal sharp cutting edge, configured to perform a thin cut through the tissue, wherein in an expanded state a maximal width of the cutting portion is larger than an inner width or an inner diameter of the biopsy tube lumen.
