Abstract: A managed optical communication network device selectively passes or blocks an optical signal from an input port to an output port, based on state of the device. The device state may be managed remotely by sending management commands, according to a communication protocol, to the device. The device may be remotely controlled to selectively cut off all optical communications between two nodes, such as between two computers, between a local area network and a router, or between a router and a wide area network.
