Abstract: Cosmetics represent a world-wide multi-billion dollar industry. The present invention provides technology for polymerizing monomers on skin in situ to produce desired skin characteristics. For example, the inventive system may be used to reduce the signs of aging or to protect the treated skin from UV light. The polymerization of monomers on skin is typically initiated using a thermal or photoinitiatied free radical initiator. In certain embodiments, the monomers are fluorinated thereby producing a fluorinated polymer on the skin upon polymerization. The invention provides monomers, initiators, methods, and kits for use in treating skin with polymers.
