Abstract: An optionally transferable optical system with a reduced thickness is provided. The inventive optical system is basically made up of a synthetic image presentation system in which one or more arrangements of structured image icons are substantially in contact with, but not completely embedded within, one or more arrangements of focusing elements. The focusing element and image icon arrangements cooperate to form at least one synthetic image. By way of the subject invention, the requirement for an optical spacer to provide the necessary focal distance between the focusing elements and their associated image icon(s) is removed. As a result, overall system thicknesses are reduced, suitability as a surface-applied authentication system is enabled, and tamper resistance is improved.

Abstract: Radio Frequency (RF) power back-off optimization techniques are described for specific absorption rate (SAR) compliance. A mobile device may be configured to intelligently modify antennas and radio device transmission levels to maintain compliance with SAR limits while minimally perturbing radio operations. The mobile device may implement a SAR optimization scheme that accounts for user presence and signal conditions to maintain compliance. Rather than setting a fixed back-off, user presence detectors may be employed along with information on current signal conditions to determine potential for excessive SAR exposure and selectively apply variable adjustments to RF transmission power (e.g., “back-offs”), accordingly. The mobile device may also be configured to report SAR conditions and/or mitigation actions to a base station to enable the base station to manage a connection to services based at least in part upon knowledge of SAR actions taken by the mobile computing device.

Abstract: An apparatus is configured to generate a current snapshot set for a consistency group comprising a plurality of storage volumes subject to replication from a source storage system to a target storage system, and to schedule a differential scan of the current snapshot set relative to a previous snapshot set generated for the consistency group. For each of one or more snapshot trees maintained for the consistency group, a determination is made as to whether or not a first node corresponding to the previous snapshot set is an ancestor of a second node corresponding to the current snapshot set, and a manner in which an instance of the differential scan is performed for the snapshot tree is altered responsive to a result of the determination.
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a system for forming a material layer that may make use of an optical light source for generating an optical beam, and a beam shaping subsystem configured to shape the optical beam to generate a complex beam intensity profile. The complex shaped beam may be used to selectively melt at least portions of a bed of powder particles residing on a substrate during formation of the material layer, as the optical light source is moved. A computer may be used to control the optical light source. The complex beam intensity profile enables control over the microstructure of grains formed during melting of the powder particles as the material layer is formed.

Abstract: A first request, to access a web site associated with a domain name, is obtained at a gateway router interposed between a local area network and an internet service provider's infrastructure, from a host on the local area network. The gateway router has Domain Name Service (DNS) resolver capability. The first request is received while the gateway router has upstream connectivity to the internet service provider's infrastructure via IPv6 but not via IPv4. Further steps include sending, from the gateway router, the first request; obtaining, at the gateway router, an indication that an IPv4 address will imminently be required for the gateway router; and, responsive to obtaining the indication, sending, from the gateway router, into the internet service provider's infrastructure, a second request, for an IPv4 address for the gateway router.
