Abstract: The description relates to parametric directional propagation for sound modeling and rendering. One implementation includes receiving virtual reality space data corresponding to a virtual reality space. The implementation can include using the virtual reality space data to simulate directional impulse responses for initial sounds emanating from multiple moving sound sources and arriving at multiple moving listeners. The implementation can include using the virtual reality space data to simulate directional impulse responses for sound reflections in the virtual reality space. The directional impulse responses can be encoded and used to render sound that accounts for a geometry of the virtual reality space.

Abstract: A battery assembly includes a battery cell, conductive bus bar, and printed circuit board assembly (PCBA). A cell tab of the battery assembly has a first portion extending from a perimeter edge of a pouch and a second portion arranged orthogonally with respect to the first portion. The bus bar defines a tab slot through which the first portion extends, and has a major surface adjacent to the second portion. The PCBA defines an elongated welding window orthogonal to a longitudinal axis of the PCBA. The PCBA is mounted over the bus bar such that surface area of the second portion is exposed through the welding window, and in turn is welded to the bus bar through and within the welding window. A spring element may be positioned between the carrier frame and the PCBA. A method of making the battery assembly is also provided.

Abstract: A method for use in manufacturing a metal part is provided. The method may include casting liquid metal in a ceramic mold. The ceramic mold may be formed via an investment casting process in which a wax mold is used to as a form for the ceramic mold, and the wax is melted away from the ceramic mold prior to its use. The method may further include cooling the liquid metal in the ceramic mold to form a solid metal part, and then divesting the ceramic mold to release the metal part. The metal part may include an imperfection in a shape of the metal part. To correct the imperfection, the method may include shaping the metal part by near-net shape forging.

Abstract: A self-starting, passively modelocked figure-8 fiber laser is specifically configured to self-start into a low noise mode by controlling one or more operating parameters of the laser including, but not limited to, the coupling ratio between the uni-directional fiber loop and the bi-directional mirror loop, the accumulated dispersion within the figure-8 structure, and the amount of power present in the laser cavity. A self-starting passive modelocked figure-8 laser may also be made to self-start by initially increasing the pump current above its lasing threshold. Including a band-pass filter in the uni-directional loop has been found to ensure that the laser will enter a low noise lasing mode.

The method provides a system for authenticating a user by a process that includes presentation of photo identification by the user and generation of an authenticated user code. The user then requests transfer of a document to the document service. The document service then validates, encrypts, and stores the document and associated metadata. A request for verification by a third party is responded to by the document service if the user sends the authenticated user code to confirm permission for verification by the document service.

Abstract: This invention concerns ultra-high purity, ultra-high performance biogenic silica filtration products comprising diatomaceous earth. In particular, it relates to products comprising diatomaceous earth which is derived from ores that have been specifically selected for their naturally low centrifuged wet density and which have been intensively beneficiated to reduce extractable impurities to near or below detection limits. The low centrifuged wet density of the selected natural ore is either maintained or further reduced through the beneficiation process, which provides for filtration product/media with high particulate holding capacities able to provide for extended filtration cycle times.

Abstract: A system receives a request to store data at a first layer of servers in a cluster, configured to authenticate and authorize the request. The system compresses the data upon authenticating and authorizing the request and encrypts the compressed data at the first layer of servers when encryption is enabled. The system sends the request and the encrypted data to a second layer of servers in the cluster, configured to store data structures used to manage data storage in a third layer of servers in the cluster, and to distribute the request and the encrypted data to the third layer of servers using the data structures. The system stores the encrypted data in the third layer of servers. Encrypting the data at the first layer of servers reduces latency associated with transferring the data between the first, second, and third layers of servers.
