Abstract: A concrete composition and method include a portion of fine aggregate bearing a coating of a polymer or an admixture, which may be a continuous coating layer or a layer of powdered, discrete particles embedded in a binder. The polymeric coating may be an admixture in powdered form, a super absorbent polymer (insoluble in water, but absorbing water), or another polymer such as the acrylamides, co-polymers thereof, polyacrylamides, or the like (soluble in water). The coating absorbs water, but particles are too small to form significant voids. Water is absorbed into the concrete mix in far greater proportions (e.g. w/c ratio over 0.5) improving workability, doubling workability time, and improving ultimate compressive stress (strength).
Abstract: A method of reducing a power consumption of wireless communication circuitry of an edge device according to one embodiment includes determining a delivery traffic indication map (DTIM) interval of a wireless access point communicatively coupled to the edge device via the wireless communication circuitry of the edge device and adjusting a wake-up interval of the wireless communication circuitry of the edge device based on the DTIM interval to reduce the power consumption of the wireless communication circuitry of the edge device.

Abstract: A method for controlling a buck-boost converter includes generating a first threshold voltage with a decreasing voltage level, generating a second threshold voltage with an increasing voltage level, and sensing an inductor current. A signal indicative of the sensed inductor current is compared to the first threshold voltage to control an on time of the high side buck switch and is compared to the second threshold voltage to control an off time of the high side boost switch. Also described is a controller including a compensator responsive to an output voltage feedback signal to generate a compensation voltage and a modulator having a buck signal path coupled to receive the compensation voltage and configured to control an on time of the high side buck switch and a boost signal path coupled to receive the compensation voltage and configured to control an off time of the high side boost switch.
Abstract: The technology involves operation of a self-driving truck or other cargo vehicle when it is being inspected at a weigh station. This may include determining whether a weigh station is open for inspection. Once at the weigh station, the vehicle may follow instructions of an inspection officer or autonomous inspection system. The vehicle may perform predefined actions or operations so that various vehicle systems and safety issues can be evaluated, such as the brakes, lights, tires, connections between the tractor and trailer, exposed fuel tanks, leaks, etc. A visual inspection may be performed to ensure the load is secured, vehicle and cargo documents meet certain criteria, and the carrier's safety record meets any requirements. In addition, the weigh station itself may be operated in a partly or fully autonomous mode when dealing with autonomous and manually driven vehicles.
Abstract: The present invention relates to methods and apparatus for managing uplink resource grants in wireless networks. An exemplary method embodiment includes the steps of: communicating resource grants to individual customer premise equipment (CPE) devices, the resource grants including at least a first resource grant to a first CPE device and a second resource grant to a second CPE device, the first resource grant giving the first CPE device the right to use a first set of resource blocks on a recurring basis, said second resource grant giving the second CPE device the right to use a second set of resource blocks on a recurring basis; monitoring the use of resource blocks granted to the first and second CPE devices during a first period of time; using stored resource utilization information to determine resource grants which are to be shared by the first and second CPE device.

Abstract: Systems and methods of a safety helmet for protecting the human head against repetitive impacts, moderate impacts and severe impacts so as to significantly reduce the likelihood of both translational and rotational brain injury and concussions can be provided. The helmet can include an outer shell, an outer liner disposed within and coupled to the outer shell, and an inner liner disposed within and coupled in spaced opposition to the outer liner. A polymer liner can be coupled to the inner liner and can at least partly separate the outer liner and the inner liner. Pads and dampers can also couple the outer liner and inner liner and provide for and control omnidirectional movement of the liners relative to each other.
Abstract: A miniaturized oscillating heat pipe (OHP) embedded within an integrated circuit (IC) is provided. The miniaturized oscillating heat pipe (OHP) integrally formed within an integrated circuit (IC) is fabricated to form a monolithic IC device using silicon (or similar future semiconductors) fabrication techniques. The OHP is operable to transfer high local heat fluxes within the IC device to more accessible locations on the IC device for heat rejection to an available heat sink.
