Abstract: A system includes code including first obtaining code to obtain a first syntax element that indicates a first quantization index value for an AC coefficient of an image; second obtaining code to obtain at least one second syntax element that indicates an offset value; third obtaining code to obtain a second quantization index value for another coefficient of the image; fourth obtaining code to obtain a quantization step size that corresponds to the second quantization index value that is obtained; and determining code to determine whether a mode in which the image is to be coded is a lossy mode or a lossless mode based on determining whether the first quantization index value is equal to a quantization index value associated with lossless coding, and based on determining whether the offset value is less than or equal to the quantization index value associated with the lossless coding.

Abstract: A method for mitigating torque steer in a vehicle having a steering axle with a limited slip differential and a pair of output members. The limited slip differential includes a pair of differential outputs and a clutch. The method includes: operating the limited slip differential with the clutch in the first condition; determining that the vehicle is in a state in which a torque steer condition is occurring or is likely to occur; and operating the clutch to reduce a torque differential between the differential outputs to mitigate the torque steer condition. A vehicle with a steering axle and a controller that is configured to operate a clutch in the steering axle to attenuate torque steer is also provided.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a system which may be used for remote vehicle diagnostic and programming. Such a system may provide a high-speed wireless connection between an OBD-II compliant vehicle's OBD-II port and a remote vehicle diagnostic and programming control interface, with connectivity and feature availability rivaling direct wired connections between vehicle and control interface. Such a system may provide benefits in vehicle repair and tuning, remote diagnosis of vehicle issues, fleet management, and improved availability and access to professional vehicle service in remote locations.

Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for optimizing one or more object detection parameters used by an autonomous vehicle to detect objects in images. The autonomous vehicle may capture the images using one or more sensors. The autonomous vehicle may then determine object labels and their corresponding object label parameters for the detected objects. The captured images and the object label parameters may be communicated to an object identification server. The object identification server may request that one or more reviewers identify objects in the captured images. The object identification server may then compare the identification of objects by reviewers with the identification of objects by the autonomous vehicle. Depending on the results of the comparison, the object identification server may recommend or perform the optimization of one or more of the object detection parameters.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed herein for processing human interactions and for populating an electronic form. For example, a system is disclosed having a database, a user interface, and a platform server. The database may store original forms, abbreviated forms corresponding to the original forms, and sets of conversion rules corresponding to the original form. The user interface is configured to receive data related to at least one abbreviated form, wherein the data is based on client inputs into fields of the at least one abbreviated form. The platform server extracts input data from the at least one abbreviated form, populates the original form using the input data and conversion rules corresponding to the original form to generate a completed original form, and transmits the completed original form to a client via the at least one user interface.

Abstract: The disclosure provides technology for enhancing the ability of a computing device to conserve computing resources while providing special effects that are aligned with a text source being read aloud. An example method includes identifying effects data for a text source, wherein the effects data correlates a physical effect with an audible action of a user; receiving audio data comprising a plurality of audible actions, wherein at least one of the plurality of audible actions comprises a spoken word of the text source; determining, by a processing device, that a triggering condition pertaining to the effects data and the text source is satisfied; loading content for the physical effect prior to an occurrence of the audible action, and providing the physical effect to modify an environment of the user.

Abstract: A stratospheric balloon may include an upper structure having a pulley, a lower structure, at least one solar panel suspended between the upper structure and the lower structure, and a first orientation control member connected, at a first end thereof, to a first transverse edge of the at least one solar panel and, at a second end thereof, to a second transverse edge of the at least one solar panel. The first orientation control member is wound about the pulley such that rotating the pulley changes the orientation of the at least one solar panel relative to the upper structure and the lower structure. In another example, the pulley may be replaced by first and second support mechanisms and the system may include a second orientation control member. The first and second orientation control members are connected to the first and second support mechanisms, respectively, and to the solar panel.

Abstract: Exemplary embodiments of a kamado-style cooker pizza oven conversion device are disclosed. Certain embodiments detachably mount within a kamado-styled cooker such that the lid of the cooker rests at an angle on the top of the device and thereby “closes off” and defines a cooking space within the interior that takes advantage of the pizza oven-like features of a kamado cooker. With an embodiment of the solution installed in a kamado cooker, an open doorway or window is defined for allowing a user to insert a pizza into the cooking space and place the pizza on a pizza stone held by the device. Embodiments allow for cooking to occur simultaneously via conductive, convective and radiant thermal energy transfer.

Abstract: Systems and methods for generating a virtual view of a virtual camera based on an input scene are described. A capturing device typically includes a physical camera and a depth sensor and captures an input scene. A controller determines an actual pose of the capturing device and a desired pose of the virtual camera for showing the virtual view. The controller defines an epipolar geometry between the actual pose of the capturing device and the desired pose of the virtual camera. The controller generates an output image for the virtual camera based on an epipolar relation between the actual pose of the capturing device, the input scene, and the desired pose of the virtual camera.

Abstract: An electrochemical cell includes a pair of bipolar plates and a membrane electrode assembly between the bipolar plates. The membrane electrode assembly comprises an anode compartment, a cathode compartment, and a proton exchange membrane disposed therebetween. The cell further includes a sealing surface formed in one of the pair of bipolar plates and a gasket located between the sealing surface and the proton exchange membrane. The gasket is configured to plastically deform to create a seal about one of the cathode compartment or the anode compartment. The sealing surface can include one or more protrusions.

Abstract: A communication system has a phased antenna array configured to communicate via a plurality of beams with a wireless device, such as user equipment (e.g., a smart phone). The plurality of beams define a field of view of the phased antenna array, the field of view having a plurality of cells and each of the plurality of beams is associated with one of the plurality of cells within the field of view. A processing device detects the wireless device within the field of view and determines a coarse geographic location of the wireless device within the field of view of the wireless device when the wireless device is within the field of view, or within a cell. The system further determines a fine geographic location for the wireless device based on frequency offset (due to Doppler) and signal flight time.

One of the biting elements is selected by the caregiver and is inserted into a receptacle in the handle. Abstract: A convertible bed frame assembly is configured to support a mattress. The bed frame assembly incorporates first and second side-by-side rectangular bed platforms. Each bed platform has a horizontal support surface, opposing lateral ends, and opposing interior and exterior longitudinal sides. A removable center extension is configured to reside between the interior longitudinal sides of the side-by-side bed platforms and coplanar with respective horizontal support surfaces. When installed, the center extension functions to separate the side-by-side bed platforms thereby increasing the width of the bed frame assembly. When removed, the side-by-side bed platforms combine together to reduce the width of the bed frame assembly.

Abstract: A skew mirror is an optical reflective device, such as a volume holographic optical element, whose reflective axis forms an angle (the skew angle) with the surface normal. A skew illuminator is a skew mirror that expands a narrow beam into a wide beam without changing the angular bandwidth of the illumination. Because the skew angle can form a relatively large angle with the surface normal (e.g., about 45), a skew illuminator can be fairly compact, making it suitable for directing light onto a spatial light modulator (SLM) in a small package. In some cases, the skew illuminator is formed as a waveguide, with a holographic layer sandwiched between a pair of substrates. A grating structure in the holographic core diffracts light out of the waveguide and, e.g., onto the active area of an SLM, which modulates the incident light and either transmits it or reflects it back through the waveguided skew illuminator.
