Abstract: A fitting ring can be provided that is attachable to an edge of a liner for an acetabular shell. The fitting ring can include an alignment portion shaped or configured to engage a lip portion of the acetabular shell as the liner is inserted into the acetabular shell to center the liner and correct any pivoting of the liner relative to the acetabular shell. A driving force can be applied to the liner to drive the liner into the acetabular shell while the fitting ring guides the liner as the liner is inserted into the acetabular shell. Driving the liner into the acetabular shell can also cause the fitting ring to disengage from the liner.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a system and method for generating a user profile for a user based on the way the user interacts with consumable content in an application, such as an electronic book in an e-reader. The actions of the user with regards to the content are monitored and the associated with characteristics of the content. This association is used to build the user's profile of their likes and dislikes which are then provided to a recommender system to provide more relevant and personalize recommendations.

Abstract: A method provides a touchable user interface based on a surface. The surface supports direct human-machine interactions as conventional touch-sensitive platforms. According to implementations of the method, a mechanical actuator-sensor assembly is arranged at any type of object, and the assembly generates and senses the mechanical wave propagating in the object. In this way, a “touchable” surface can be created.
Abstract: Applying machine-learning to optimize the operational efficiency of data backup systems is described. A machine-learning system creates a training set of multiple features for each of multiple historical data backup jobs. The machine-learning system trains a prediction model to predict, based on the training set, the probabilities that the corresponding historical data backup jobs failed during the next historical data backup window. The machine-learning system creates an operational set of multiple features for each of multiple scheduled data backup jobs. The trained prediction model predicts, based on the operational set, the probabilities that the corresponding scheduled data backup jobs will fail during the next scheduled data backup window. The predicted probability that a scheduled data backup job will fail during the next scheduled data backup window is output, thereby enabling an operator to remediate the scheduled data backup job prior to the next scheduled data backup window.
Abstract: Methods of etching a metal layer and a metal-containing barrier layer to a predetermined depth are described. In some embodiments, the metal layer and metal-containing barrier layer are formed on a substrate with a first dielectric and a second dielectric thereon. The metal layer and the metal-containing barrier layer formed within a feature in the first dielectric and the second dielectric. In some embodiments, the metal layer and metal-containing barrier layer can be sequentially etched from a feature formed in a dielectric material. In some embodiments, the sidewalls of the feature formed in a dielectric material are passivated to change the adhesion properties of the dielectric material.

Abstract: Described herein is a system that transmits and combines local models, that individually comprise a set of local parameters computed via stochastic gradient descent (SGD), into a global model that comprises a set of global model parameters. The local models are computed in parallel at different geographic locations along with symbolic representations. The symbolic representations can be used to combine the local models. The global model can determine a likelihood, given a new data instance of a feature set, that a user performs a computer interaction with the content element. For instance, the system can use the model to provide search results in response to a search query submitted by a user. Or, the system can use the model to make a recommendation or suggestion to a user in response to a request for content (e.g., display a targeted advertisement, suggest a news story, etc.).
